The Singing Cookes started as a husband and wife duet in the coal mining town of Wise, Virginia in 1962. As each of their three sons came of age, they joined their parents in the family ministry. Their singing took them to churches and revivals in Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio. In the mid-1970’s their song “He Rows Me Over The Tide” appeared in the nationwide song charts and The Singing Cookes began traveling throughout the Southeast. They have become one of the best loved groups in gospel music, endearing themselves to fans that come for their music and fall in love with their down home, genuine personalities. In 2010 they were honored in Nashville, TN by a group of their industry peers for their contributions to gospel music and Jeanette is the 2010 recipient of the Naomi Sego Living Legend Award.
