Popular Female Vocalist, Janet Paschal To Host 2nd Annual NQC Cancer Walk

Written by Rhonda on September 8, 2010 – 8:38 am -

Louisville, KY – The National Quartet Convention will once again team with popular singer, songwriter, author and radio host, Janet Paschal will host the 2nd Annual NQC Cancer Walk on Saturday morning, September 18 at 8:00am on the grounds of the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center. “Last year’s event was a tremendous success and we are excited to team with Janet Paschal once again to afford our attendees to give back to such a worthy cause as the American Cancer Society,” stated NQC Executive Vice President, Clarke Beasley. The National Quartet Convention kicks of Sunday, September 12 and will feature dozens of Southern Gospel Music’s most talented recording artists, as well as nationally noted speakers during afternoon showcase spectaculars and evening concerts throughout the seven-day event. The NQC Cancer Walk, hosted by Janet Paschal, is just one of the many attractions scheduled for the 40,000 fans who are expected to attend the event.

Paschal, a long-time favorite among Southern Gospel audiences nationwide, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005. The North Carolina native took a year hiatus from her speaking and concert touring, while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. Since resuming her travels, she has toured nationally and internationally, sharing her message of hope and triumph. In November, 2008, she released her latest literary work, Treasures of the Snow, which chonicles her battle with cancer and recently became a best seller. In 2009, Paschal began a weekly radio series, Walking The Good Road, to better promote cancer awareness. The series airs on JOY FM’s network of radio stations, covering seven states. This week, Paschal announced plans to launch a brand new daily 2-minute radio program, which will be available to radio stations throughout the United States and Canada beginning in October. The daily program features special interview segments with Christian music artists, medical professionals, pastors, authors and individuals from all walks of life who have been impacted by cancer. Paschal views the NQC Cancer Walk as yet another way to promote cancer awareness. “I’m so thrilled the NQC shares this vision,” Paschal stated, “and I’m honored to host this event, which I believe will have a tremendous impact on many individuals, just as it did last year. Last year’s event provided us the opportunity to donate over $2000.00 to the American Cancer Society, and we’re hoping for even greater success at this year’s event.”

The 2010 NQC Cancer Walk will begin at the main entrance of Freedom Hall at 8:00am. A $10.00 registration fee is required for Walk participants. The first 300 registrants will receive a free 2010 NQC Walk t-shirt. Participants may pre-register throughout NQC Week in the North Wing Lobby of the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center. On-site registration the morning of the event will begin at 7:00am at the entrance to Freedom Hall. The event is open to NQC attendees, as well as the general public. All proceeds from the 2010 NQC Cancer Walk will benefit the American Cancer Society.

A complete list of the events scheduled throughout the National Quartet Convention may be obtained online at www.natqc.com. Tickets are still available for all events and may be ordered online or during NQC Week at the Expo Center’s North Wing.

September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month “Friends Like Us” Raising Awareness

Written by Rhonda on September 3, 2010 – 11:38 am -

The month of September is officially “Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.”  Sadly, childhood cancer affects families all over the globe- more than 160,000 children are diagnosed each year world-wide!  Cancer crosses every border affecting children of every race, age, socio-economic level and religion.  The causes of most childhood cancers are not known and presently can not be prevented. Shocking statistics indicate in the US alone- approximately over 12,600 children are newly diagnosed every year.  Studies show 1 in every 330 children develop cancer before age 20 and on average- 36 children and teens are diagnosed every single day.  The treatments vary but may include medications, surgeries, chemotherapy and more.  According to the child’s age, gender and type of cancer, on average- treatments last 2 years.  With every diagnosis, pain, worry and fear is sure to accompany the news.  SGNScoops applauds the efforts of non-profit organization “Friends Like Us” for actively raising awareness of the disease but also for ministering to hurting families who have been devastated by childhood cancer.

”Friends Like Us” was founded by Mark and Deloris Bailey as they went through their own battle against leukemia with their son.  “Friends Like Us” began a program called “Getting Better Together” providing children, diagnosed with cancer,a teddy bear that is customized with interactable accessories.  This teddy bear is called a “Chemo Bear and serves as a teaching tool, source of comfort and a way to allow children to role play thus giving the child a chance to be the “doctor.” Along with Chemo Bear comes a stethoscope, medical bag, children’s book about cancer, bandanna/chemo for the bear, an implantto fix/port with tubing in Chemo Bears Chest and more!  The Chemo Bear and accessories are at no charge to the families who are going through chemotherapy.

“Friends Like Us” is solely dependent upon donations from caring and generous people in order to put Chemo Bear into the hands of these children.  The cost to adopt a Chemo Bear is only $25.00. ( http://www.friendslikeus.org/About%20Us)  In addition to Chemo Bear and the ”Getting Better Together” program, “Friends Like Us” is actively raising awareness and support by participating in local parades, festivals, bake- sale fundraisers and have also launched a new gift shop on their website.  Necklaces and other gifts may be purchased from the site with 100% of the profits returned to the cause.

The Baileys are passionate about ministering to families devestated by childhood cancer  and are on a mission to help find a cure.  In an interview with SGNScoops, Mr Bailey had this to say as to the reason why he is passionate about children with cancer:  “There is purpose beyond pain! God took us through our storm of our son having cancer and almost dying to where he is in remission today, completely healed and now we are in return ministering healing to other families and children devastated by childhood cancer. It’s our heart, our purpose and our calling!”   The Baileys are called to encourage and love these families and it’s their goal to have their Chemo Bear program available in all Children’s Hospitals across the USA.

The “Friends Like Us” website includes a world of helpful information for both families needing help and for those desiring to help!  For more information and specific Chemo Bear Adoption instructions, visit  http://www.friendslikeus.org/About%20Us or contact “Friends Like Us” at 1421 Lexington Ave #145 Mansfield, Ohio 44907.  “Friends Like Us” has a facebook page and can be followed on twitter as well.

At SGNScoops.com, our thoughts, well wishes and prayers are extended to these children and their families as they battle cancer.  With much respect and admiration, we express our appreciation to Mark and Deloris Bailey for their service to these families and to the Lord Jesus Christ.  Our prayers are with the Baileys as they continue to minister through “Friends Like Us.”

Soles4Souls Announces 2nd Annual Thanks4giving Program

Written by Rhonda on September 1, 2010 – 9:31 am -

Soles4Souls, the shoe charity, needs help from your congregation to support our upcoming Thanks4Giving program.

This unique event will touch the lives of thousands of individuals during the Fall season,  when most of us are enjoying the warmth and safety of our homes,  families and friendships. Of course, there are millions of people without any of these, and during the upcoming holidays we are working to provide much-needed relief in an otherwise bleak time. Ever since Soles4Souls started handing out free shoes (both brand new and gently worn), communities across the world have stepped up to help make an impact on the hearts and minds of people in need, whether they are around the corner or around the world.  The truth is, our charity can’t reach victims of natural disasters or those struggling to lift themselves out of extreme poverty without the assistance of caring individuals like you, and you have responded in amazing ways.

This Thanksgiving, we invite your congregation to step up and help us harvest 250,000 pairs of shoes for the poor. Americans have over 1.5 billion pairs of shoes in our closets, and it’s time we take the extra pairs and give them to people who will treasure them for years to come.

Please consider joining our call to raise 250,000 pairs of shoes as a simple message of love and solidarity to those who are without.  Thanks4Giving is a unique opportunity for people to be thankful for what they have by sharing the gift of shoes with those less fortunate.

For more information or to sign up your congregation to give the gift of shoes this Thanksgiving, visit the Thanks4Giving Website.  To learn more about Soles4Souls and its upcoming charitable events, visit www.giveshoes.org or call 866-521-7463.

Wishing you happiness and health,

Wayne Elsey,
Founder & CEO

New Jesus Movie Receives Matching Donations

Written by Rhonda on August 17, 2010 – 2:30 pm -

(August 17,2010) Even as scores of new supporters have begun to pour in from most every corner of the world (see www.facebook.com/NewJesusMovie) , Malaysia, Brazil, Uganda, Nepal, Malawi… just in the last few days, a family foundation which desires to remain anonymous, has stepped forward with a pledge to match donations up to $4,000 from August 6 – 22, working through The National Christian Foundation.

“As you can guess,” remarks Bruce Marchiano, who is spearheading this groundbreaking vision, “I am EXTREMELY humbled and thankful for this family – and for everyone who has given of themselves to see the Gospel go forth in this dynamic.”

Uniquely, “Jesus… No Greater Love” is being produced as a non-profit ministry, to be funded by the collective donations of millions of believers who appreciate the need for Jesus across America and the world, and the medium of film being “the language” of today. “It is no mystery that people are reading less and less – especially young people,” Marchiano continues.  “But they do watch movies.  So for me it is a no-brainer – make the Gospel a movie, and put it on theater/TV screens across this nation and the world, dub it into the languages of the world; equip local churches, ministries, missionaries, etc., with it… and see the Lord touch lives!”

“Jesus… No Greater Love”  will be a Word-for-Word adaptation of The Gospel According to John, the vision’s foundation being that the power to change lives is not in the film – but in God’s Word, in His Gospel.  The script is currently undergoing a “final polish” to assure that the Gospel truths are brought to life in accuracy and depth that will peel back the layers of John’s Gospel as much as possible.  At the same time, the film makers are committed to utilizing the most cutting edge film technology available, making Jesus… No Greater Love truly “a Jesus movie for a new generation.”

And why would professionals volunteer, and everyday believers give, to a film production?  Because “Jesus…No Greater Love”  isn’t about generating commercial success, but about reaching souls for Jesus.  It’s about millions of youth “watching” the Gospel on iPods, cell phones, the internet, etc., and also being projected on a bed sheet in an Indian leper colony.  This is a film produced by the body of Christ to reach the world for Christ.

As believers across America and the world embrace that same passion with their support, especially in this seventeen day period of matching their donations – “Jesus… No Greater Love” will soon be coming to a screen near you! For more information, visit www.NewJesusMovie.com.

“Family” Unites For The Bowling Family

Written by admin on August 4, 2010 – 9:46 pm -

On-site report by Rhonda Frye

Family, Friends and Fans gathered August 3, 2010 at Trinity Music City Auditorium in Hendersonville TN for a benefit concert in support of The Bowling Family. More than 20 Gospel artists including Karen Peck and New River, The Isaac’s, The Perry’s, Gaither Vocal Band, Ernie Haase and Signature Sound, performed for a sold out crowd. Honored guests in the crowd were 4 uniformed, North Carolina police officers who worked the crash scene a little more than a month ago. The purpose of the concert was to raise financial support for the Bowling Family as they recover from their accident. “Part of our family is hurting- they’re in trouble. When part of the body hurts, all of the body hurts.”- Bill Gaither

Throughout the night, the audience was brought to their feet by the music and it’s message. There were also “touching moments” as artists shared personal testimonies of the Bowling’s generosity and goodness. Legendary Ricky Skaggs said in regards to the Bowlings: ” They are salt of the earth people.” The Bowling Children were introduced on stage and later a video taped message of appreciation from Mike, Kelly and Terah was shown. The total amount of financial support is yet to be determined, however a large sum donation was presented, an announcement was made regarding the donation of new microphones and speakers and a love offering was received by participating artists.

When asked his feelings regarding “Family United”, Jason Crabb responded: “Overwhelmed! Tonight was overwhelming due to the caliber of what it took to pull off this event before it even took place. I’m thankful for the work so many people has put in- TBN and Les Butler, especially. Tonight was overwhelming also due to the caliber of artists who took their time to be with us tonight. Artists such as Ricky Skaggs, The Gaither Vocal Band. “Family United” lets us know this Christian Music Industry is who we say we are- It’s deeper than any other. Tonight is a testimony of us living the lyrics we sing.” During Crabb Revival’s performance, Adam Crabb expressed his appreciation and stated: “God has shown His love through you.” In regards to the Bowling’s future, Adam stated: “The best is yet to come. God knows how to make a way when there is no other way.”

There will be a re-broadcast of “Family United” on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 from 6-9 pm est. on solidgospel.com Donations are greatly appreciated and can be made at http://www.bowlingfamilyonline.com/

SGN Scoops Writer Hosts Benefit Sale for Bowling Family

Written by admin on July 12, 2010 – 12:46 pm -

Yard Sale to Benefit Mike & Kelly Bowling.

Saturday 7/17
7:30 AM
215 Cherokee Dr
Simpsonville, SC

From Dee Ann Bailey:

Most of you receiving this know that in addition to my job and my church I am also a big fan of gospel music and have even done some writing for some national magazines and digital magazines.  On Thursday, July 1st a group that my daughter and I both love, the people and their music, the Bowling family were in a horrific bus accident.  Mike & Kelly each have some serious injuries and others on the bus were injured as well.  They are going to be off the road for some time to heal from this plus the cost of all the damages.  The Bowlings are well known in the Southern Gospel world but their influence has reached even farther as they have recently been guest performers on the Grand Ole Opry and Kelly & Terah were part of the Crabb Family and are sisters of Jason Crabb.

It’s often said that one person can’t do much, but also if every person does something a lot can be accomplished.  If this doesn’t interest you, stop reading now and delete with no hard feelings.  But I wanted to let folks I know what Alicia (my daughter) and I have decided to do.  When Alicia first mentioned having a yard sale with the proceeds going to Mike and Kelly, my first thought was – man I just gave a truck load of stuff to our church for a mission yard sale- I’m not sure I have anything left.  But as I began to think I realized yes we do have things we didn’t get together for the previous yard sales so maybe this would work.

Since then I’ve talked to a number of folks that say they have items to donate so it looks like we might have a decent size sale after all.  I’m passing this to you for a several reasons. 1) if donations continue to come in, we may need a large place than my home to have this yard sale so if you know of any spaces or lots with high traffic that would be available for a day, please let me know. 2) if you have anything sitting that you would like to donate, we will definitely take donations (please no junk, just items that can actually be sold) and lastly- 3) if you like yard sales please come out and see what we may have that you need and/or pass this on to others that might be interested.

At this moment the sale is scheduled for Saturday 7/17 at 7:30 215 Cherokee Dr Simpsonville, SC.  As I said above that could change but we would advise if that is the case.

More details on the accident can be found at http://www.southerngospel.com/Southern-Gospel-News/11634197/ or at their website http://www.themikebowlinggroup.com/

Men of Music and Sunday Edition Lend Voices for Special Flood Relief Benefit Concert

Written by admin on May 22, 2010 – 8:20 am -

Sunday Edition Also Takes Hands-On Approach to Flood Relief

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Southern Gospel favorites the Men of Music and Sunday Edition took part in a special Nashville Flood Relief benefit concert last weekend. Both groups performed sets as part of the multi-artist event where many of the industry’s brightest names also performed.

Men of Music’s Gregory Colburn said, “It was an honor for Men of the Music to be a part of such a great event. We had a blast performing with so many other great artists. Everyone did a great job, and I know they raised a lot of money to help the flood victims.”

Deon Unthank (of Sunday Edition) said, “It was a real no-brainer to be a part of this event. We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus – and if we are able to do that by giving up a Friday evening and donating our talents for the Lord, then we’re happy to do it!”

“This flooding hit real close to home, and while our group was very fortunate and didn’t see any damage, we do know people who did lose of a lot of their personal items,” mentioned Unthank.

In addition to the Men of Music and Sunday Edition, several of Southern Gospel’s brightest names appeared at the special Flood Relief benefit concert this past Friday evening, May 14, 2010. The event was designed to help raise funds to aid in relief from the devastating floods that hit Nashville and other Middle Tennessee communities earlier this month.

Other artists that participated in the event included Palmetto State Quartet, Three Bridges, Freedom, Dianne Sherrill, The Sargents, Firm Foundation Quartet, Allen Frizzell, Angelina McKeithen, The Songfellows, Mystery Men Quartet, Jeremy Calloway, and Southern Salvation. Award-winning Country singer Naomi Judd served as the special guest emcee for the program as well.

Sunday Edition’s Amy Marie Unthank and Chris Unthank also took a more hands-on approach to flood relief. The two joined a team that went into the hardest hit areas and helped clear out homes and clean for those who needed assistance.

“The devastation was truly shocking,” mentioned Chris. “We couldn’t believe that we were standing in areas where the water would have been over our heads just the weekend before. These people are hurting and just need the love of Jesus. We hope that we showed them His face through our work.”

Assistance is still needed throughout the Middle Tennessee area. To find out more information on how you can help in flood relief – visit http://nashvillest.com/2010/05/03/so-nashville-is-flooded-how-can-i-help/ with all the latest info.
