SGN Scoops Fast Five: The Griffith Family

Written by Staff on May 11, 2015 – 10:26 am -

The Griffith Family

The Griffith Family

Today on SGN Scoops Fast Five we feature The Griffith Family, a mixed Southern Gospel trio with Mansion Entertainment. Tony Griffith, his wife, Julie and friend Amber Smith have created a rich vocal sound that is Southern, progressive and all their own.

Here is what we found out about this delightful trio:

SGN: What is your latest CD and single release?

Griffiths: Our new cd is self-titled The Griffith Family. Our radio single is called “I’m Here Because Jesus Went There.” One cool thing about this album is that we did it ourselves in our own studio and produced the record ourselves.

SGN: What is your favorite thing to find backstage?

Griffiths:  Our favorite thing to find backstage at a concert venue would be food and a place to relax before a concert.

imageSGN:Who is your favorite person in Southern Gospel?

Griffiths: Our favorite person in Southern Gospel music is Adam Crabb. We have known Adam for years but just recently reconnected. Not only is he a talented singer but we believe that he really loves the Lord and lives what he sings about.

SGN: What would you be doing if you weren’t singing?

Griffiths: It’s difficult for us to really say what we would be doing if we didn’t sing. We don’t like to think about it. If we had to choose: Tony would probably be a musician, Julie would probably be a nurse and Amber would be a counselor of some sort.

SGN: What song do you wish you were the first one to record?

Griffiths: We would have loved to record “Your Cries Have Awoken the Master” first just because it really describes a lot of our testimony.

Open Letter From Jimmy Reno

Written by Staff on February 24, 2015 – 2:45 pm -

Jimmy and Christa Reno

Jimmy and Christa Reno

Birmingham, AL- Over the past few years I have had the privilege of traveling the U.S. and meeting many gospel music fans in my two tenures with Mark209. The support, love and encouragement I have encountered has been overwhelming during this period of time.

After a very successful Christmas tour with the group, I returned home to find some health issues with my daughter that required us to focus on her and her health. As my wife and I have dealt with these issues, we have earnestly sought through prayer the best decision for our family and the direction of my calling in fulltime music ministry.

As of February 2015, my wife, Christa and I have prayerfully reached the decision that I will retire from fulltime travel on the road. We have been seeking God and wise counsel about this decision and feel that this is the best option for our family moving forward.

I want to thank all of the gospel music fans who have embraced my family and lifted us up in prayer during this trying time. We ask for your continued support and prayers for my family and for Mark209 as they move forward. My wife and I look forward to the new doors the Lord opens for us and our family and we look forward to continuing sharing the gospel through those avenues.

Donna King Lands in Top Ten of NSAI Song Contest

Written by Staff on February 6, 2015 – 10:00 am -

TwitterandFB_ProfileLast October, upwards of 2000 songwriters entered songs in the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) Song Contest presented by CMT (Country Music Television Network).

On February 1, 2015 the Top Ten Finalists were announced and among that select group was producer, songwriter, and artist in her own right, Donna King. Donna is well known in Christian music circles, having written, produced, and performed many hit Christian songs. However, this particular song is from Donna’s Country music songwriting collection. The song is entitled “THIS KIND OF COLD.”

Donna says, “I am still in complete shock over making it to the NSAI CMT Song Contest Top 10 Finalists. I know I have to write songs and nothing I am able to do is done in my own strength. I pray that each song I write will find the home it was meant to live in. Some of those songs are just meant to live in my own heart and others are meant to reach places that I can only imagine they might go.

“The most wonderful thing about this contest is the opportunity to expand the reach of my songs and to live fully in what I feel is God’s most definitive call on my life. I congratulate every finalist for their achievement and I thank the NSAI and CMT for helping to create a path for songs that may never otherwise have an opportunity to be heard. I also thank every person taking the time to vote for “THIS KIND OF COLD” and to share it with others to vote as well. Finally, I thank God. He knows the plans He has for me…Jeremiah 29.11.”

Trinity Broadcasting Network Statement on the Passing of TBN Founder Dr. Paul Crouch

Written by SGN Scoops Staff on November 30, 2013 – 10:44 pm -

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 30, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ — Trinity Broadcasting Network issued the following Paulstatement on the passing of TBN founder and President Dr. Paul Crouch:

Dr. Paul Crouch, founder and President of the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), the world’s largest Christian television network, died November 30th at the age 79. His passing followed a decade-long battle with degenerative heart disease.

Dr. Crouch’s passion throughout life was to spread the gospel, a passion that in 1973 led him and his wife Jan to found TBN with one small low-power station in Southern California. Under Dr. Crouch’s leadership of over forty years, TBN has grown into 26 distinct global networks and affiliates, reaching every inhabited continent with life-changing Christian programming.

During that time Dr. Crouch also empowered scores of ministries to expand their reach and influence through television, and through those partnerships Dr. Crouch and TBN took an active role in helping to lead tens of millions of individuals to faith in Christ. Throughout his life Dr. Crouch pointed to that eternal harvest as his most important legacy.

While acknowledged throughout the broadcast industry as the foremost leader in Christian television, Dr. Crouch maintained a characteristic modesty concerning his role, preferring to emphasize the countless friends and partners who stepped alongside him and Mrs. Crouch to make TBN a successful outreach. Above all, in reflecting on his crucial role in TBN’s continued impact, Dr. Crouch inevitably pointed to the importance of an undying faith in God, which he characterized as “walking to the edge of all the light you have … and taking one more step.”

While we mourn Dr. Crouch’s passing, we are comforted with the knowledge that his influence and legacy will be felt for many decades to come as the Trinity Broadcasting Network continues to broadcast the good news of Jesus Christ throughout the world.

For more information, please visit www.tbn.org.
