The Hoskins Family

Written by Staff on September 30, 2015 – 4:46 pm -

The Hoskins Family

The Hoskins Family

This is a story of “coming apart before one falls apart,” literally, and about how God has worked in every aspect of it all. It is a story of faithfulness to God and understanding the need to follow Him and obey His direction. It’s a story of courage and knowledge to know when to quit, and yet not give up. It’s a story of a family totally committed to doing God’s will and a beautiful story of a new beginning.
The beginning of this century introduced the Southern Gospel audience to the rich family harmony and exciting stage presence of the Hoskins Family. The family’s first Top Forty song was written by Angie Hoskins Aldridge and titled “Mission Of Love.” It came from a 1998 album by the same title. Their second album, Hope, in 2000, generated their first top five hit, “Joyful Morning,” which came in at number three, and as they say, the rest is history!
The Hoskins have always been a church-going family. When the church doors opened they were there. They sang in the choir, they taught Sunday School, they played the instruments and whatever else was necessary for services to be complete. They were the “Preacher’s Kids and Grandkids.”

Angie Hoskins

Angie Hoskins

Rick and Reva Hoskins have known no other way of life, but to serve God and sing. They have sung all their lives and naturally their daughter Angie inherited their talent. The three sang in the church where Reva’s parents pastored, until God opened their ministry to a wider audience by allowing their songs to be played on Gospel radio.
Following their introduction to mainstream Southern Gospel audiences through radio, they were immediately added to the larger venues in Southern Gospel. Churches of every size and denomination clamored for dates to have them in service.
After eight years on the road, in 2006 the Hoskins Family stopped touring and took a break from their music ministry. We recently caught up with Angie and talked about what the Lord has been doing with and for the group.

Goodman Revival: A Happy Surprise

Written by Staff on August 11, 2015 – 11:12 am -

Goodman Revival

Goodman Revival

The name Goodman is synonymous with Southern Gospel Music. This legendary group will forever be remembered for their timeless classics, such as, “I Wouldn’t Take Nothing for My Journey Now” and “Who Am I.”  While Howard, Vestal, Rusty, and Sam are now singing on Heaven’s shores, another generation of Goodmans has stepped up to continue the family’s musical legacy. Tanya Goodman Sykes, Michael Sykes, and Johnny Minick are singing songs in the key of happy. What was thought to be a one-time special performance at Johnny’s church, River of Life Assembly of God Church, in Smyrna, Tennessee, has now blossomed into a new ministry. Goodman Revival seeks to not only maintain the uniqueness of the Happy Goodman Family musical style, but to also preserve the purpose of ministry: to share the love of Jesus Christ every time God opens the door.

Tanya Goodman Sykes

Tanya Goodman Sykes

Sometimes, it is evident that God works in mysterious ways. Tanya says the formation of this new ministry was a complete surprise, yet a tremendous blessing. She discussed their decision to move back to Tennessee: “When we first moved back here, we were staying with Johnny and Sherry while we were looking for a house. One Sunday, I sang, ‘Who Am I?’  Just different things, and Johnny would play, and he and Michael would sing harmonies. Then one Sunday, we decided to sing, ‘Until You’ve Known the Love of God.’  We worked it up on Saturday night and we did it on Sunday. At that time, they were posting the services online and putting stuff on YouTube. I saw it on YouTube and it had like 10 or 15,000 hits. We were just shocked. A few months went by and a promoter called us. He said, ‘I want to know about how I can get Johnny, Tanya, and Michael to come and sing.’ We said, ‘We don’t have a group.’”

According to Tanya, the promoter wanted to schedule the group for a reminiscing night of Gospel Music, featuring Tanya, Johnny, and Michael, along with the Rambos and Hinsons. Tanya said they decided it would be fun, but they had to learn more songs to sing, since they had only prepared a couple for church. She said someone got very excited about their limited performances and gave them the money to make a record.  Soon the Gaithers wanted them to do a video and as they say, they rest is history. That’s how Goodman Revival was born.

Goodman Revival has, of course, a strong musical influence from the original Happy Goodman Family.  As the daughter of Rusty Goodman, Tanya shares her father’s heart for ministry. So do Johnny and Michael.  Tanya added, “My dad was a stickler for a good song. A lyric was really important to him and it was also really important that the melody marry that lyric and really represent what that lyric was about, so we all are very picky about songs. One of the things that Michael, Johnny, and I learned by example from my family is that you just need to use the gift that God put in you.” Read more »

The LeFevre Quartet welcomes Jeremy Peace as New Tenor

Written by Staff on July 14, 2015 – 5:45 pm -

FB_IMG_1436929094937

Mike LeFevre of The LeFevre Quartet announces Jeremy Peace as new tenor. “We are thrilled to have Jeremy Peace serving in the tenor position with the LeFevre Quartet. Jeremy has an impressive history in Southern Gospel music. His sincere heart for ministry and powerful tenor voice make him a wonderful addition to The LeFevre Quartet.”

Jeremy Peace

Jeremy Peace

Jeremy stated, “It’s a privilege to now stand on stage with one of my heroes, Mike LeFevre, ministering in song and delivering the Word of God when the opportunity arises. My wife and I were immediately at peace with the decision to join the ministry of LeFevre Quartet. We realized this was the door the Lord had opened for us to walk through, enabling me to minister to a lost and hurting world. My passion has always been great quartet singing, and after singing with Mike and his quartet, I’ve quickly
discovered they are a group full of talented, humble personalities with a drive to be the very best they can be to further the message and the music. I’m honored to be a part of such an amazing group!”

Thomas Nalley resigned the position, due to a medical condition. Since that time, Thomas has completely recovered, and is currently serving with the group in a non-singing capacity. Thomas commented, “While we don’t always understand why things happen the way they do, I am convinced that His ways are perfect!”

Please join us in welcoming Jeremy to LQ and in praising God for Thomas’ miracle!

SGN Scoops Wacky Wednesday: Top Ten Places Gospel Artists Like To Eat

Written by Staff on June 24, 2015 – 4:37 pm -

wackywednesdayThanks for joining us for another Wacky Wednesday on SGN Scoops. Today we ask another insightful question: “Where do Gospel artists like to eat?”

Booth Brothers

Booth Brothers

SGN Scoops polled about 17 or so artists about various things and tabulated their answers. We have used this (not so great) scientific process to create today’s Wacky Wednesday Top Ten (more or less)!

Zane and Donna King

Zane and Donna King

Our panel of expert artists gave us the following answers.

The Number One answer it seems is, of course, Cracker Barrel. Now we aren’t sure if there is a particular entrée that is preferred by our contestants, although most of us on Facebook are aware that Gerald Wolfe likes Cracker Barrel for the lima beans. He was not one of our panel of guests, but five out of 17 on the panel voted for this country-style restaurant, including Greg Bentley, all three of the Booth Brothers and Donna King.

The next favorite place to eat is in a mall

Greg Bentley

food court, as voted on by Scotty Inman and David Sutton. David also indicated that he enjoys Bourbon Chicken in the mall.

Other favorite restaurants include…

Michaela Brown…Skyline Chili

Karen Peck… Longhorn Steakhouse

Hannah Webb… Panera

Lauren Talley Alvey…Cheesecake Factory

Gary Casto… Waffle House

Billy Blackwood… HuHot

Phil Collingsworth Sr. … Dickey’s Barbeque

Three Bridges

Some other interesting responses include…

Clayton Inman, who likes to eat on the bus.

Joseph Habedank, who likes to investigate local restaurants.

Shannon Smith, who said, “Five Guys may be the most common and consistent, particularly when we’re on a tight

schedule (however, some of the local places are very cool and interesting.)”

So now you know! There may be more than 10 answers, but that is how we roll on the SGN Scoops Wacky Wednesday!

Thanks again to all of our participants. Be watching SGN Scoops mainpage for more Wacky Wednesdays in the weeks to come. Do you want to suggest a subject or an artist? Email us at sgnscoops@gmail.com

Peace Family Ministries Formed

Written by Staff on June 8, 2015 – 1:37 pm -

image

By Robert York

Jeremy Peace formed Peace Family Ministries earlier this year. He states, “Peace Family Ministries sets out as missionaries to evangelize, preach, sing and teach the Gospel of Christ to a sin filled world, lost and without hope.” They conducted their first of several scheduled services in his hometown of Rome, GA on May 31.

image4Jeremy was born in Rome, GA. He professed salvation at age of six,  but as life went forward he realized he did not have a personal relationship with Christ. In July 2008 the Holy Spirit enlightened him about who He was and August 24, 2008, he could no longer resist, so he accepted Christ as his Savor. During this time Jeremy had sung Gospel music with The Relations for a year and half and The Kingsmen for about three years. In 2007, he joined The Old Paths, met his wife Jennifer on the internet and married her June 13, 2008.
During his tour with The Old Paths he was part of four number one songs, “Battle Stand,” “God’s Great,” “Long Live The King” and “Love Them To Jesus.”

image2 (1)In 2013 he felt God calling him to preach and he started preaching. He continued to hear God speaking to him to go into full time ministry sharing the Gospel. Once again Jeremy kept resisting but he finally answered the call and has embarked on a full time ministry along with his wife Jennifer and pianist and vocalist Josh Townsend.

Jeremy states that his personal testimony is based upon the life he once lived as a sinner, the life he lived as one wrapped in bondage, and the renewed life he has been given to step out on faith with his family as an evangelist and singer.
Jeremy’s wife Jennifer is a speaker and vocalist with the group. She has previously sung with a ladies trio out of Ringgold, GA where they now make their home. Like Jeremy, she professed Christ at a young age only to realize she didn’t have a real relationship with Christ until August of 2009. After her marriage to Jeremy, they experienced a lot of hardships, losing two little ones through miscarriage, and having financial struggles. Today they have three children, Abigail, Rachel and Elizabeth.
image3Josh Townsend who serves as pianist and vocalist with the group was born into the world a twin, but his twin died during pregnancy due to a trauma his mother endured at the hands of an abusive husband. Josh was born with several physical problems and had a stroke. God had plans for Josh and he has been able to work through all his problems. He has a wonderful testimony he shares so others may see the wonderful power of the Lord.
Peace Family Ministries is ready to share the gospel with folks and are available to do conferences, revivals, retreats, worship services, concerts and can tailor the service to the needs of the people that will be attending. You can contact them on Facebook at Peace Family Ministries or on the internet at www.peacefamilyministries.org. They will be happy to talk with you schedule and arrange a service to fit your needs.
