Tribute Quartet: Uniting the past, present and future of Southern gospel

Written by Staff on June 12, 2019 – 11:37 am -

Tribute Heritage and tradition is incredibly important in the Southern gospel music field. The quartets of today often look to groups of old for inspiration, while putting their own spin on their style of music. One of the groups leading the way is fittingly named Tribute Quartet. This dynamic quartet, founded in 2006 by Gary Casto and Josh Singletary, honors those who have come before and is dedicated to sharing the Gospel through their music. Their mission statement is simple: “preserving the heritage and promoting the future of gospel music.”

Gary Casto of Tribute

Tribute Quartet will be celebrating their 13th year in full time Southern gospel music this year. Over the years, this powerhouse group has been delighting fans with their energetic style, humor, courtesy of Josh Singletary, and the message of the Gospel via incredible songs. The current lineup is comprised of lead singer and founder Gary Casto, baritone and pianist Josh Singletary, bass singer Anthony Davis, and the newest member, tenor Gus Gaches.

Casto has been singing full time in gospel music for 36 years and his classic lead voice has captivated audiences all over the country. He also serves as the group’s emcee at their concerts.

Josh Singletary of Tribute

Josh Singletary

Josh Singletary has been singing in gospel music for 18 years. His unique, crooner- style voice adds a great dynamic to the group, as does his crazy sense of humor. Anthony Davis has been with the group since 2011, for eight years of experience in Southern gospel music. His smooth bass voice has cemented him as one of the most popular bass singers on the road today. Gus Gaches is no stranger to Southern gospel music, having traveled with both the LeFevre Quartet and Legacy Five. Gaches, who joined the group in January, has 19 years of experience and has become a fan favorite tenor.

These talented vocalists are inspired by many of Southern gospel music’s finest. Casto states, “To name them all would take a novel. We all have a vast variety of musical influences. But the group as a whole has influences from the Cathedrals, Wilburns, and Statesmen, to the Imperials, Oak Ridge Boys, and a plethora of others.”

Tribute Quartet: Artists on a Mission

Written by Staff on September 1, 2017 – 8:59 am -

Tribute

Tribute

Southern Gospel Music is known as quartet music for its traditional four-men-and-a-piano set-up. Over the last few years, Southern Gospel has evolved into a popular form of music across the United States and overseas. There are only a few groups who live up to this customary Southern Gospel description.

The word tribute, when used as a noun, is defined by Dictionary.com as “a gift, testimonial, compliment, or the like, given as due or in acknowledgment of gratitude or esteem” (http://www.dictionary.com/browse/tribute, June 20, 2017). That is the perfect description of this group. When you meet the Tribute Quartet, you will understand how four voices and a piano can truly excite and energize your day on the radio or in person. They are a tribute to Southern Gospel Music, and their testimony and music is a gift to share.

Preparing the Gift

In 2005, the Wilburns (led by the husband/wife tandem of Jackie and Elaine Wilburn) decided to retire. However, a couple of the Wilburn group members were looking to sing on. And sing they did. In a short time, Wilburn members Gary Casto and Josh Singletary were enjoying presenting gospel music. Yet, Casto and Singletary had a vision of a quartet that was focused on music and ministry.

The veteran singers began a new vision without a name in December of 2006. Now, the group had signed to record with BSA World Records. Time had come to name the new group, but no one name had caught their attention.

Tribute“Glen Bates of BSA World Records made the suggestion of Tribute,” Singletary recalls. “There were no other names. That’s the one that was suggested. We all thought about it and loved it, so we stuck with it.”

From the first Tribute Quartet outing, the enthusiasm and energy caught the attention of Gospel Music lovers, young and old alike. Over the following months, the word began to spread about this new, young group that was energizing churches and concert stages in the Gospel Music world.

By 2008, Tribute Quartet began to receive some industry awards and a variety award nominations as well. In short, the Tribute Quartet was making its mark in brief time.

Tribute: Preserving the Heritage and Promoting the Future of Gospel Music

Written by Staff on September 17, 2015 – 4:46 pm -

Tribute

Tribute

“Tribute: an act, statement, or gift that is intended to show gratitude, respect or admiration.” That’s the first definition that comes up in a word search online for the word tribute. Gospel music has all kinds of tributes. I was present in the side section with some of the artists in 2010 at the National Quartet Convention when they paid tribute to some of the notable artists in a celebration of 100 years of Gospel Music. Now THAT was a tribute! We see tribute tours of older artists in different genres, different styles of Christian music, and we see tributes to great athletes of years gone by. But one group of four men based out of Nashville, Tennessee, are spending their lives paying tribute to what Gospel music represents and Who has been the theme of songs down through the years.

We’re visiting with Tribute Quartet this month, and you’ll love what they have to say to us about their motto: “Preserving the Heritage and Promoting the Future of Gospel Music.”

Anthony Davis

What was your favorite Thanksgiving dish ?

1) That’s an easy one…cornbread dressing!  Not stuffing, not out of a box, Moms homemade cornbread dressing.

Did you watch any sports?

2) No sports for me…the only sports fans of the bus are Gary and Jeff, our driver, they keep us more up to date than any of us care to be lol

Did you watch the Macy’s Day Parade?

3) I DID watch the parade, or at least most of it, in between bites lol

Does your family have a tradition on thanksgiving that is special to your family?

4) our only tradition is to eat, much like everyone else’s

Tell us a few of the things that you are thankful for in 2014?

5) I’m thankful that we still live in a county that, for now at least, allows such a day of Thanksgiving, for family and friends, for the guys that i travel with, and for all the many blessings that God gives that are more than im sure I even realize.

Tribute Quartet is excited to announce the addition of bass vocalist Anthony Davis

Written by SGN Scoops Staff on January 15, 2011 – 12:20 pm -

Tribute Quartet is excited to announce the addition of bass vocalist Anthony Davis to their group. Anthony is 28 years old and calls Dyersburg, TN home. Prior to joining Tribute Quartet, Anthony worked in the law enforcement field. He brings to the group six years of quartet experience, a great bass tone and the ability to sing a smooth lead vocal with passion and conviction.

Anthony is the successor of Dennis Dugger, the original bass for the group. Dennis leaves with the blessing of each member of the quartet. Gary Casto says, “This is a bittersweet time for us. We have enjoyed traveling with Dennis, and we appreciate his years of loyalty and dedication to Tribute. He leaves the group with our best wishes. As we look forward to the future, we are thrilled that a young man of Anthony’s talent and witness has been sent to our group. We are excited to introduce him to our gospel music family in the weeks and months to come.”
