GUY PENROD CELEBRATES #1 DEBUT WITH HYMNS

Written by SGN Scoops on April 12, 2012 – 4:06 am -

NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Hymns, the sophomore Gaither Music Group/Servant Records recording from Guy Penrod, Christian music’s premier country recording artist, achieved chart-topping sales success following its release March 27.  Hymns was the top seller on Nielsen SoundScan’s Southern Gospel retail chart; #5 on the Current Contemporary Christian chart; and entered The Billboard 200 at #85.  First-week sales of Hymns surpassed those of Penrod’s 2010 solo debut, Breathe Deep, which has gone on to sell more than 85,000 units.

Produced by Penrod and Pete Greene, Hymns showcases 13 of the award-winning artist’s favorite selections, including the debut single, “Does Jesus Care?,” a duet with the legendary George Beverly Shea.  The project also features “The Old Rugged Cross,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “Amazing Grace,” “Count Your Blessings” and “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms,” among others.

Penrod’s 2010 Dove Award-nominated Gaither Music Group/Servant Records release, Breathe Deep, continues to be a benchmark for country recordings within the Christian marketplace, featuring successful mainstream country and southern gospel radio singles.  A 2011 Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductee, Penrod made his Grand Ole Opry debut last year.  Prior to his solo career, Penrod spent 14 years with the GRAMMY® and Dove Award-winning Gaither Vocal Band.

Hymns is distributed by EMI CMG Distribution and is available at retail and digital outlets worldwide, as well as Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores®.  The new recording is positioned heavily at retail and is being aired as part of a direct TV campaign on networks including GAC, RFD, GMC, TBN, FamilyNet, CTS, CTN, TCT, TLN, Airtime 1 and GMTN and in Canada on Grace, Legacy, Miracle and Vision.

GMC’s First World Premiere Christmas Movie, Christmas with a Capital C, Earns Parents Television Council Seal of Approval(tm)

Written by Scoops Staff on December 3, 2010 – 7:04 am -

Dec. 2, 2010 /Christian Newswire/ — GMC, America’s favorite channel for uplifting music and family entertainment, announced today that its first World Premiere Christmas Movie, Christmas with a Capital C, has been awarded the coveted PTC Seal of Approval(tm) by the Parents Television Council. The movie will air on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. ET with encores that night at 9 and 11.

The movie is based on the song “Christmas with a Capital C” by the Contemporary Christian band Go Fish, whose video for the song has received more than 15 million views online.

In awarding its PTC Seal of Approval to Christmas with a Capital C, the PTC wrote: “Christmas with a Capital C is unapologetic in its position on the importance of Christian customs and traditions in the public square, at Christmas and year-round; but it also demonstrates the importance of Christian compassion for others, and of making a genuine effort to understand them. Because of its emphasis on family-friendly values, the Parents Television Council is proud to award Christmas with a Capital C with the PTC Seal of Approval.” The full review can be seen here.

In the film, ’tis the season to be jolly, but holiday traditions are under attack when lawyer Mitch Bright returns to his hometown of Trapper Falls, Alaska. Residents of the small town who once looked forward to each year with enthusiasm and taking great care to drape the town with Christmas cheer every season, find themselves in the heat of a legal battle with a former member of their community. Christmas with a Capital C stars Daniel Baldwin (Cold Case) as Mitch Bright and Ted McGinley (Married with Children) as Mayor Dan Reed. A high school rivalry between the two re-ignites over a nativity scene in the town square. Nancy Stafford plays Reed’s wife. Brad Stine plays Reed’s brother.

Christmas with a Capital C is written by Andrea Gyertson Nasfell and directed by Helmut Schleppi. James Chankin, Michael Scott and David Cuddy are producers. Visit www.watchgmctv.com.
