THE ROYS Take Home ICM Bluegrass Artist of the Year Award For Second Consecutive Year

Written by SGN Scoops on October 22, 2012 – 8:02 am -

Nashville, TN (October 19, 2012) — THE ROYS have been named Inspirational Country Music’s Bluegrass Artist of the Year for 2012, giving them back-to-back wins in this category.  “We sing what is in our hearts and true to our Faith,” comments Elaine Roy.  “It was a very strong group of nominees – everyone deserved this award,” notes her brother Lee.  “Elaine and I are so honored to win this for the second year in a row.”  THE ROYS were named the organization’s Bluegrass Artist of the Year in 2011 and Duo of the Year in 2010 and 2009.

The brother/sister duo kicked off the 20th Anniversary Faith, Family & Country™ Awards Show with a performance of the title track from their current EP, NEW DAY DAWNING (Rural Rhythm).  The disc debuted at Number 2 on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums Chart in early September and two weeks later had risen to Number 1 on Amazon’s Bluegrass Best Sellers list.

Last night’s Awards ceremony was hosted by Inside Edition’s Megan Alexander and GAC’s Storme Warren and held at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville.  THE ROYS shared the stage with luminaries Mac Powell (Third Day), Andy Griggs, John Berry, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver and more.  The nationally-televised program aired on TCT Television Network, Total Living Network, NRB Network and Golden Eagle Broadcasting.  Fans should check local listings for repeat air dates and times.  Nashvillians can view the show on WKRN-TV (Channel 2) on December 23.

Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver Honored as ICM Vocal Group of the Year

Written by SGN Scoops on October 22, 2012 – 7:42 am -

NASHVILLE (October 20, 2012) — Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver were presented with the prestigious Vocal Group or Band of the Year Award at the 18th Annual Inspirational Country Music Awards on Thursday night at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in downtown Nashville.

Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver (DLQ) performed “God Can” on the ICM Awards Show, with their famed signature harmony ringing beautifully true in a facility known for its amazing acoustics. DLQ performed just after Chuck Hancock was presented with Male Vocalist of the Year honors and shortly before a powerful performance by John Berry of “Hard to Sing the Blues.”

The Inspirational Country Music Association’s honor comes on the heels of Lawson’s induction into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium in late September. Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver have multiple Grammy, Dove, IBMA and SPBGMA nominations, have released nearly 40 albums, and are seven-time winners of IBMA’s Vocal Group of the Year.

“Doyle is legendary in both bluegrass and gospel genres,” said Bob Cherry of Cybergrass, “and he frequently mixes them to deliver something special.”

A special evening it was for Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver as they took home their first ICM trophy, an exquisite etched glass creation, in a ceremony whose other nominees included country artists such as Alan Jackson, Josh Turner and Vince Gill, and bluegrass artists such as Ricky Skaggs, Rhonda Vincent, The Roys and the Isaacs.

Of the evening, Doyle Lawson said:

“What an honor it was to receive the ICM Vocal Group/Band of the Year Award last night at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville.  We performed at the event last year, and I was most impressed with the focus on God, Family and Country.  Special thanks to Gene Higgins, his son Jason, and the entire ICMA staff for their hard work and dedication to the cause.  Also thanks to all the participating artists for making us feel welcome and at ease. And congratulations to all of the other winners last night! May God bless all of you in your efforts to spread the good news of the gospel in song and spoken word.”

Doyle Lawson’s award-winning band includes Mike Rogers (guitar/vocals), Corey Hensley (bass/vocals), Josh Swift (dobro/vocals), Joe Dean (banjo), Jason Barie (fiddle) and Kevin McKinnon (sound engineer).

Lawson and his band returned to the studio on Friday, continuing to lay down tracks for their upcoming eagerly-anticipated album release scheduled for early 2013.

Lee Roy of THE ROYS Receives Plaque For Number 1 Inspirational Country Single “I Wonder What God’s Thinking”

Written by SGN Scoops on October 17, 2012 – 11:01 am -

Nashville, TN (October 17, 2012) — Lee Roy of the award-winning brother/sister duo THE ROYS was honored Monday when he received a plaque from Power Source Magazine for his Number 1 Inspirational Country Single, “I Wonder What God’s Thinking.”  The presentation took place during Day 2 of Inspirational Country Music Week (October 14-18) aboard the historic General Jackson Showboat.  Honorees and luncheon attendees enjoyed a scenic cruise and were entertained with live performances by Geoffrey Andrews, Russ Murphy, Steve Richard, Laura Dodd and Larissa.  “I Wonder What God’s Thinking” questions the Lord’s perception of today’s often selfish society that frequently ignores our fellow humans in need.  The poignant song was featured on THE ROYS’ extremely popular and critically-acclaimed Rural Rhythm Records’ debut CD, LONESOME WHISTLE.

“Every award is meaningful in its own way,” comments Lee.  “But to be recognized for my efforts as a songwriter is especially humbling, since I believe in divine inspiration.  I wrote it after watching the news and considering how separated so many of us seem to have become from each other and from God.”

Lee and his sister Elaine comprise THE ROYS, a powerhouse duo that’s repeatedly rocketed up the charts and grown in popularity during the past two years.  Their August-issue EP, NEW DAY DAWNING, debuted at Number 2 on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums Chart in early September and two weeks later the disc had risen to Number 1 on Amazon’s Bluegrass Best Sellers list.  The EP’s first single release, “Still Standing,” debuted on the Power Source Bluegrass Top 35 chart this month.

The reigning ICM’s Bluegrass Artist of the Year, THE ROYS, are candidates for nomination in three award categories for 2012: Entertainer of the Year, Vocal Duo of the Year and Bluegrass Artist of the Year.

The siblings are playing an active role in this year’s Inspirational Country Music Week, with appearances on Sunday, October 14 (ICM Opening Ceremony at Cornerstone Church) and on Thursday, October 18 as they kick off the 20th Anniversary of the ICM Faith, Family & Country™ Awards Show with the evening’s first performance.

Music Icon Ricky Skaggs Nominated For Five ICM Awards, Including Entertainer and Legend/Pioneer Award

Written by SGN Scoops on September 2, 2011 – 8:20 am -

Nashville, TN (September 1, 2011) — The ICM Faith, Family & Country Awards Top 5 finalists were announced yesterday, and Ricky Skaggs secured nominations in five categories: Legend/Pioneer Award, Entertainer, Inspirational Country Song (“Someday Soon”), Musician and Inspirational Bluegrass Artist. For Skaggs, who has previously won several ICM Awards, this year’s nominations are particularly sweet. “I’m very grateful to the ICM for all the nominations,” says Skaggs. “When I started playin’ and singin’, they didn’t have award shows like they do now, so I’ve never been driven to win them. I just love the music and I love the fact that God uses music to speak to people’s hearts. That’s what I’m in it for, to be a messenger of His Love.” The 17th Annual Inspirational Country Music Awards will be held on Friday, October 28 at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Ricky has been honored with the following ICM Awards: Musician of the Year, Christian Country Music Association – 1994, 1995, Musician of the Year – 2008, Inspirational Bluegrass Artist (with The Whites) – 2008, Mainstream Country Artist (with The Whites) – 2008, Mainstream Country Artist – 2009 and Inspirational Bluegrass Artist – 2010. A 14-time Grammy® winner, Skaggs should have no problem garnering additional nominations in the future, as he continues to record and produce peerless music that appeals to an ever-growing fan base that crosses multiple genres. He released COUNTRY HITS BLUEGRASS STYLE in July, and the 14-song disc is a mix of Skaggs’ Country and Bluegrass roots; a compilation of numerous Skaggs’ #1 Country hits and fan favorites, played in a Bluegrass style. Ricky’s been sharing his music with fans around the country during his current Treasure Chest Tour. The tour continues with shows in Copper Mountain, CO (Villages at Copper Mountain), Stephenville, TX (Birdsong Amphitheater), Bloomington, IL (Bloomington Performing Arts Center) and Hiawassee, GA (Georgia Mountain Fall Festival) in addition to a host of bluegrass dates. In August, Skaggs Family Records announced the issue of another 2011 CD: A SKAGGS FAMILY CHRISTMAS VOLUME TWO. The 10-song disc hits stores nationwide on September 27, and features both studio and live recordings. A bonus DVD filled with 26 performances of traditional seasonal favorites and new compositions that are sure to become holiday treasures is included with the CD. Skaggs and The Whites have taken their live holiday show on the road for the last eight years, entertaining crowds in venues ranging from churches to symphony halls, to the National Tree Lighting Ceremony in Washington D.C., where they sang for President George W. Bush. They continue the tradition this year with bookings at a variety of outlets throughout the holiday season. A Skaggs Family Christmas Tour concludes with a special evening at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center on December 22.
