Dixie Melody Boys

Josh Garner of the Dixie Melody Boys has decided to leave the Dixie Melody Boys. He announced his decision publicly on Facebook today. He wrote:

“It is with great sadness that I announce I am resigning from my position with the Dixie Melody Boys. Ecclesiastes tells us that to everything there is a season. After much counsel and prayer, it is evident that this season of my life is ending. I am not saying that I am done with Gospel music, but I may need to step away for a while and reexamine my path. I don’t believe for a moment that God is done with me. In fact, I believe He is preparing me for my greatest season of all. I know that it won’t be easy and there are trials to come. However, I rest assured that thanks to God’s faithfulness, I have “strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow.”

“I know how these departures are typically received, so let me clear the air. I love Ed O’ Neal! I can’t thank him enough for providing for my family these last six years. Working alongside Ed has been a great joy and I will miss being with him on a regular basis. Throughout his wife’s illness, I witnessed firsthand the meaning of a biblical marriage. I came to know his heart through many late night conversations. He is truly a man of character and dignity and it is my great honor to call him friend for over 25 years.

“Secondly, it has never been my intention to take over the Dixie Melody Boys after Ed O’ Neal. I told him when I came that I am with him until he retires or dies. Unfortunately, I am forced to break that promise. However, please know I joined the group and have remained with the group because I love Ed and I saw the potential to be an asset to HIS group. As far as I’m concerned, the Dixie Melody Boys will ALWAYS be Ed O’ Neal’s group.

“Finally, I have been under personal attack for many months now. My name and reputation have been slandered, but I have remained quiet as I had no doubt that the truth would eventually come out. I appreciate the many friends who approached me firsthand about the false claims and I am so thankful for their confidence in me. Sometimes it takes a difficult experience like this to learn who your friends really are. I am blessed to say that I am rich with true friends.

“Unless I am instructed otherwise, I intend to fulfill our scheduled dates through June 2nd. That will be my last official date with the Dixie Melody Boys, along with Jerry Skaggs, who submitted his resignation a week ago. I ask that you pray for Ed as he continues to recover from his automobile accident. Nothing would please me more than to see him on stage one more time. I, also, ask that you pray for me and my family, as I currently have no prospect for employment and am seeking direction. I know the last thing Gospel music needs is another soloist, but if you are so inclined, I would be very happy to come sing for your church, organization, etc. to help with our financial needs.

“Thank you all for allowing me to share my talents with you for the last 22 years. I am fully trusting on God during this time of indecision and I am not anxious. I know that He will provide as He always has. God bless you and hope to see you soon!”

Dahlonega, GA – OMEGA is excited to announce Kevin Harry as their new lead vocalist.DSC03011 (1)

The group began searching for the right fit after the recent announcement of departure from Dustin Simmons. The group will miss Dustin not only as a singer, but as a friend. We know that Dustin is following God’s will for himself and his wife Morgan. We wish him great success.

OMEGA says there was one singer that stuck out in their minds, after he had joined them on the road for a few months last year. “We were excited when the call came from Kevin”, states group manager Doug Pittman. “Kevin has one of the best voices in gospel music today. We are very excited to have him on board. He has a tremendous voice that we are sure will bless people, along with his great spirit.”

Kevin has recently been seen filling in for the Dixie Melody Boys while Josh Garner honored previous commitments before joining the group. Ed O’Neal stated “We needed someone that could jump in and not miss a beat. Kevin did a fantastic job. He impressed not only us, but fans everywhere when he was singing with us. Dixie Melody Boys Announce Lead Singer

Written by SGN Scoops on August 5, 2013 – 9:35 am -

dixienewThe Dixie Melody Boys are excited to announce one of Gospel music’s best lead singers, Josh Garner, as their new member. The group began their search over two months ago when Mike Rogers resigned and had them listening to over 400 demos and auditioning numerous men. “This has been different than most of the times I have hired someone to fill a position. We heard so many great singers and we even thought we had found the right man a few times but it just wasn‘t the right fit.” said Ed O’Neal. “I have always loved Josh’s voice. I have even tried to hire him a few times in the past but the timing was never right. I am thrilled to have him join us.” added Ed.
The fans of Gospel music will remember Josh as the last lead singer for the Florida Boys as well as from the Gaither Homecoming Series. For the last five years he has been with Freedom, a trio that he founded with John Rulapaugh. Josh has been nominated numerous times as Favorite Lead Singer and is widely acknowledged as one of Gospel music’s all-time great lead singers. “Josh called me and offered to help us by filling in until we could find someone. It made looking for someone easy knowing he was on stage with us until we found the right person. His first night with us felt as if we had been singing together for years. Over the next few weeks both he and the group knew the right guy for the job was already there. Josh is a great addition to our team. I know the fans will be excited about seeing him with us.” stated Matt Felts.
The Dixie Melody Boys have already been in the studio with Josh and will release the new album soon. The project comes off the success of their fiftieth anniversary album, The Call Is Still The Same, and promises to be a hit. Josh will join the group mid August and will appear with them for the first time at NQC on Tuesday and Wednesday night. To check the Dixie Melody Boys schedule go towww.dixiemelodyboys.com

Josh Garner and John Rulapaugh Form Freedom

Written by Scoops Staff on April 22, 2010 – 11:36 am -

Sevierville, TN – Freedom is the ability to act, speak, or think without limitation; the power of the will, not relying on necessity; the entitlement to worship and live for God – in spite of social rejection.  Freedom is not about politics or religion.  Freedom is power, not to be taken lightly, and is to be enjoyed by all of God’s children.  With these thoughts in mind, Josh Garner and John Rulapaugh are elated to present their new musical endeavor: “Freedom!”

“Freedom” is the culmination of a mutual lifelong dream for longtime friends Josh Garner and John Rulapaugh.  Having spent a combined total of more than 30 years singing the Gospel, these young men have joined forces to create a new standard in Christian Music.  Joining Garner and Rulapaugh in this new undertaking is vocalist Joel Trimble.  Sharing a deep love for God and country, these three men are passionate about spreading the love of Jesus throughout an increasingly hurting nation and around the world.

John Rulapaugh states, “This is the realization of an ultimate dream for me.  It is always an honor to have the opportunity to share Christ through music or spoken word, and I am very excited about the opportunity to do just that with Freedom.  Having known Josh Garner for quite a while and having had the opportunity to work with him over the past year, I am excited that our friendship is now lending itself to business and creative partnership.  Josh is the type of singer that others aspire to be.  He inspires me to push myself vocally and creatively. Joel Trimble is a great singer, a devoted Christian young man, and has a heart for ministry.  We are thankful that the Lord put Joel in our path and that he has chosen to join us in this endeavor.”

Josh Garner says, “It has always been a faraway goal for me to be involved in the formation of a group.  However, that time has come and I couldn’t possibly be more excited about the things God is already doing with Freedom.  John Rulapaugh is the greatest tenor voice to come along in the past 30 years and it’s an honor to turn our friendship into a business relationship.  Joel Trimble is truly a breath of fresh air.  I am thrilled to see in him the same passion that I have for this music.  I’m certain Joel will quickly become a fan favorite.”

Joel Trimble says, “My father is a Baptist minister and my mother taught me how to sing when I was a small boy.  I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful, loving, God fearing family.”  Trimblecontinues, “I grew up listening to the Cathedrals, Gold City, and the Kingsmen, so it’s always been my dream to sing.  I want to use the talent God gave me for His glory and I’m thrilled to be a part of this new ministry.  I know God is orchestrating all of these changes in my life and Freedom is a welcome answer to prayer.”
