Middle Tennessee Women’s Retreat

Nashville, TN – Ann Downing and her retreat planning committee are readying themselves and the Nashville, TN Airport Holiday Inn to receive attendees for the 25th Annual Middle Tennessee Women’s Retreat (MTWR). The retreat began in 1992 as a shared vision with Ann’s late husband, Paul Downing. Plans were already in progress for the first retreat when Paul suddenly fell ill less than 5 months prior to its start. From a Lexington, KY Critical Care waiting area Ann summoned all her courage to continue with plans for the inaugural retreat. Paul Downing passed away in February before the May retreat dates. “Once Paul moved to Heaven, I never dreamed there would be more than one retreat, but here we are staring at the approaching 25th annual gathering. That’s simply God.”

Keynote speakers for the event include prolific author and former editor of Focus on the Family Magazine, Sandra Aldrich, along with Rev. Michael Benson, author, evangelist, and son of Benson Music Company’s Bob Benson. There are 6 total keynote speaker sessions through the weekend along with 5 different options for breakout sessions. “Middle Tennessee Women’s Retreat is different.” added committee member, Karissa Petty. “We welcome women of all ages and denominational and socio-economic backgrounds. We believe the Bible lays out a clear plan for generational interaction. Accordingly, you’ll find women 80 years of age in a small group with women 40 or 60 years their junior, but don’t let that fool you; the learning goes both ways. That’s just one aspect of MTWR that sets it apart.”

Early registration for the retreat runs through February 15th. Registrations are accepted up to the start of the retreat, but early registration is encouraged. MTWR 2016 runs March 18-20. The Nashville Airport Holiday Inn is located off Briley Parkway. More information can be found on the Ann Downing

Ministries website, www.anndowning.com/mtwr, or by calling the office, 1-877-886-1629.

Ann Downing Announces 24th Middle Tennessee Women’s Retreat

Written by Staff on February 22, 2015 – 6:44 am -

Ann Downing is excited to announce the 24th Middle Tennessee Women’s Retreat. This is an annual event that seeks to provide an atmosphere of encouragement and emotional safety for women of all ages, denominations, and cultures while learning more about themselves and the grace, hope and love of God. The theme this year is “KEEPING YOUR FAITH IN GOD’S UNSEEN PLAN.”

Founders Paul and Ann Downing had a vision to provide a place where women from all walks of life could come one weekend each year for the purpose of reconnecting with themselves by taking time away from their “everydayness” and looking to Jesus for their true identities. Having lost everything of earthly value, except each other, Paul and Ann knew first-hand what the healing power of God could do in a relationship. They set their sights to what they believed was a calling of God … to establish a retreat for women. Just two months before the first retreat, Paul passed away. During the 56 day hospital stay, Ann had to decide the fate of the retreat. Knowing Paul would have it no other way, the retreat went on as planned. Amazingly, as only God can do, Ann was the one most ministered to during that first retreat. Her grief bore the emotional safety Paul desperately wanted the retreat to foster, and that safety contributes largely to the reputation for which Middle Tennessee Women’s Retreat is known today.

The weekend opens with an evening full of surprise music guests. Saturday and Sunday offer theme related workshops. This year’s retreat will be held April 24-26th, 2015 (Friday evening-Sunday Noon) at the Briley Parkway Holiday Inn in Nashville. The hotel is located just minutes from Nashville International Airport, Opry Mills Mall, Opryland Hotel and the Grand Ole Opry.

Ann extends this invitation, “At a time when little in the world makes sense, I invite you to step away from those concerns for three days and drink in the encouragement of fellow believers. I invite you to come and help equip yourself for the days ahead. Join us for the journey. It’s a journey of faith, a journey where immediate outcomes are usually impossible to know. It’s about Keeping Your Faith in God’s Unseen Plan. We are finite. God is infinite. Let’s walk forward together trusting the reality of His promised plan.”

The Keynote speaker this year is Jackie Kendall. Jackie’s ministry spans more than 30 years. As President of Power to Grow Ministries, Jackie is a sought after conference speaker for people of all ages and stages of life. Jackie has chosen a road marked by personal vulnerability, accessibility and honesty. Jackie and her husband, Ken, taught a spring training Bible Study for the Montreal Expos and the Atlanta Braves between 1991 and 1998. Jackie is now a popular speaker for Pro Athletes Outreach (Baseball and the NFL).

Workshop speakers include Sharron Kay King, Darlene Chapman, Sheri Thrower, Melissa Shoemake, Patsy Lewis, Pauline Patterson and Karissa Petty.

Registrations are accepted through April 24th with an early registration special until March 1st. The registration fee covers all materials for the retreat plus a luncheon and dinner banquet on Saturday.

April 14, 2012 Declared “Ann Downing Ministries Day” in the State of Tennessee

Written by SGN Scoops on May 4, 2012 – 2:37 pm -

Hendersonville, TN May 2, 2012   April 13-15 marked the 21st Annual Middle Tennessee Women’s Retreat, but the weekend also marked a life-long career highlight for the retreat’s hostess, lauded Gospel music soloist, Ann Downing.
Citing the memory of the late Paul Downing and the dream he shared with his bride, Ann, Governor Haslam noted the Middle Tennessee Women’s Retreat goal of providing an emotionally safe environment for women, the retreat’s yearly contribution to Tennessee tourism, and Ann’s 49 years of honorable representation of the state of Tennessee across the globe as reasons for the proclamation. The proclamation also lists Ann’s example of “sheer determination, faith, and hope” as further qualities making Ann and Ann Downing Ministries worthy recipients of the honor.
“My heart can’t take much more” were Downing’s initial words of response after the surprise presentation of the proclamation by long time friend, Mr. Jack Faris. As former CEO of the National Federation of Independent Business and former Executive Director of the Republican National Finance Committee, Faris’ presence for the presentation was as surprising as the proclamation itself. “As Paul and Ann’s banker of many years, it’s just fitting; and I’m honored to be a part of this celebratory occasion,” Faris said. “I’m trying to process it all,” Downing added. “April 14, 2012 is a day I’ll remember every year, and having my good friend Jack here to help celebrate, along with a wonderful group of ladies, makes it about as perfect as anything in this world could ever be.”
