New Day Christian Distributors Adds Industry Veterans In Expansion

Hendersonville, TN  – New Day Christian Distributors is pleased to announce the addition of industry veterans Dusty Wells and Kyle Johnson to the New Day sales force.  Dusty Wells has been named Director of Sales, while Kyle Johnson will serve as the Director of Inventory and Production.  This announcement follows the recent addition of Word Entertainment to New Day’s family of exclusive labels and vendors.

Beginning as a buyer for the Christian Supply chain in Portland, Oregon, Dusty Wells has been directly involved in Christian music for over 35 years.  He spent the last 23 years of his career at Word Entertainment, working with national account sales, special market projects, marketing, promotions, sales management, road representative and artist and label relations.  His deep love for Christian music shines through his work and he claims one of his greatest passions in life is helping others know and grasp the importance of what Christian music can do for someone on their journey.

“I am absolutely thrilled about this new adventure that God is putting me on with New Day. I have been a fan of Dottie Leonard Miller and Ed Leonard for years, and I’ve always admired and respected New Day and their label, Daywind. So now I’m honored to have the incredible opportunity to join their team and also remain active as the liaison with retail sales and marketing with the transition of Word/Curb as they join forces with New Day,” shares Dusty. “It really is going to be a wonderful new season with great opportunities to get music, DVD, and other product out in a great way. I know and understand the power of ‘heart’ music and New Day, Word, and Curb does as well. I cannot wait to see all of what the future holds as we all partner together to help our customers and artists explore new ways of sharing their music and ministry to so many who need to hear the message of Jesus Christ and His unconditional love for us all.”

Kyle Johnson also got his start working in Christian retail.  Upon moving to Nashville in 1998, Kyle took a production & inventory job with Word Entertainment.  He has also spent time with Michael Smith and Associates, working with artist management and social media marketing, and recently served as Communications Director at ClearView Baptist Church in Franklin, TN.

Kyle comments, “I’m excited to join a company that has such a rich heritage in the Christian marketplace as New Day, and to be back working alongside the Word/Curb label is an even greater thrill. As the music buyer at a local Christian bookstore, I always called New Day for my needs. I look forward to working with this great team as we deliver the powerful message of the Gospel through the medium of music.”

“We are so excited to have Dusty Wells and Kyle Johnson as part of the New Day team,” shares Ed Leonard, VP of New Day Christian. “With the addition of the Word/Curb catalog and new releases, it is great to have two industry veterans who are familiar with both Word/Curb and New Day to help our wonderful team serve Christian retail with fantastic products.

Effective January 2nd, New Day is the exclusive distributor of all Word Entertainment titles in the physical format to Christian retail, including all back catalog, as well as Word’s record and film partners, and artists on Word and Curb’s Christian rosters.  New Day will kick off this new relationship with first quarter releases from Selah, Family Force 5 and Point of Grace, as well as the release of the film “Priceless” on DVD and Blu-ray.

Daywind Studios Gain International Attention

Written by SGN Scoops on February 20, 2012 – 4:37 pm -

Hendersonville, TN (February 20, 2012) –For Southern Gospel fans in the United States, accessing the latest music from top groups is as easy as turning on the radio or visiting the local Christian bookstore.  However, fans in other parts of the world do not enjoy the same conveniences that so many of us take for granted.  Despite the obstacles, Southern Gospel continues to attract fans from countries as far away as Australia.  For Greg and Jill Lanyon, weekends consist of traveling to local churches and conferences around their hometown of Stanthorpe in rural Australia.  Although there are many Southern Gospel fans in this area of Australia, the genre is not widely sung, and Christian bookstores that would provide physical copies of the music are sparse.  Even churches are widespread, making it difficult for many families to regularly attend.  Working as a team, Greg and Jill travel to these churches, ministering through both the Word and song.  At the urging of close friends and family, the Lanyons decided that it might be time to take the next step in their ministry by having Jill record her very first CD.  “We are ministering in rural areas without a lot of spiritual influence.  These songs really minister and encourage the people who hear them,” shares Jill Lanyon.  “Doing a CD is a way to leave the music with them that they can continue to enjoy after we’re gone.”  After nearly 20 years of using Daywind soundtracks, the Daywind name was at the forefront of their minds when choosing the right studio in which to record the CD.  Upon further research and a meeting with Daywind’s Rick Schweinsberg, Daywind’s excellence within Southern Gospel music and involvement with the top groups in the industry became evident, and the Lanyons decided that recording at Daywind Studios was the right choice. Looking for a professional, yet personal experience, all while receiving the best value for the money, the Lanyons made the nearly 9,000 mile trip from Stanthorpe, Australia to Hendersonville, TN.  Jill spent the first day recording vocals in the Daywind studio, with award-winning Daywind songwriter Marty Funderburk in the producer’s chair.  After completing the vocals on the 10-song CD, the second day included a professional photoshoot at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel & Resort.  Within a couple weeks, the mixes and graphics will be finalized, and Jill Lanyon’s first custom CD will be available for those congregations in Australia.   “Our experience with Daywind from beginning to end has been exceptional,” comments Greg Lanyon.  “The professionalism of the equipment and the studio was great.  The equipment is very modern and the staff was great!  Thanks to Rick [Schweinsberg] for all his help in getting us around and we look forward to continuing our association with Daywind in the future.” Johnny Sansom, Director of the Daywind Recording Department, adds, “It was such a pleasure working with and having the Lanyons with us here at Daywind Studios.  They found out about our recording services through the use of our soundtracks that they have been using for many years.  This is a true testament of how Daywind tracks are used around the world.” For more information on Daywind Studios, visit daywindrecordingstudio.com.  For more information on Daywind Soundtracks, visit daywind.com or call 1.800.635.9581. NATIONAL QUARTET CONVENTION ENDS ON A HIGH NOTE WITH 100 YEARS OF SOUTHERN GOSPEL MUSIC CELEBRATION

Written by Rhonda on September 27, 2010 – 3:26 pm -

(Hendersonville, TN) September 27, 2010 – Days after the annual National Quartet Convention has come to an end, fans are still talking about the Saturday afternoon showcase that brought back some of the most influential groups of the past 100 years.  Produced by Daywind Records’ Norman Holland, this once in a lifetime experience allowed formerly popular groups, such as the Hinsons and the Speers, as well as many others, to take the stage for, what was for many, the first time in years.
Thousands filled Freedom Hall in Louisville, KY, for an afternoon of memories.  From the Rambos to the Downings and the Nelons, the groups came together to sing the songs that fans today still know and love.  With segments from the bluegrass families of the Lewis’ and the Easter’s, as well as former members of the Cathedrals and members of the current Caravan tour, consisting of the Blackwood Brothers Quartet, the LeFevre Quartet and the Chuck Wagon Gang, there was something for everyone.
Perhaps one of the most special aspects of the showcase was the excitement of the artists to participate in such an event.  Karen Peck Gooch, who began her current group, Karen Peck and New River, following a tenure with the Nelons, shares, “It was an honor and a thrill to participate in the 100 year celebration.  I was privileged to travel with the Nelons for 10 years in the 1980s.  Being on stage with them again was magic!  I can honestly say that every group that graced the stage had that special….MAGIC.  All of us were flooded with great memories and tears.  We will be talking about this event for years to come.  Wow.”
The Singing Americans featuring Rick Strickland, Dwayne Burke, Ed Hill, and Michael English were also a crowd favorite, with Michael singing his classic, “I Bowed On My Knees.”  Possibly the most anticipated event was the reunion of one of Gospel music’s most beloved quartets, Gold City.  Former members Brian Free, Ivan Parker, and Mike LeFevre joined Tim Riley to sing as a quartet for the first time in 19 years.  This moment was truly special for fans and artists alike.  Brian Free comments, “It was great to stand on stage again with my friends Mike, Ivan and Tim.  It was as if we had never been apart on stage.  Our emotions were high.  God never ceases to bless me in my life.  I hope we get to do it again sometime.”  For Norman Holland, this event was not only a once in a lifetime gift to fans and an honor for those involved, but also a special memory for himself.  He remarks, “For someone like me, who grew up loving Southern Gospel music, it was like going back in a time machine to visit the music of my childhood.  To be able to relive those magical moments was one of the highlights of my life.”
For those not able to attend, as well as those who wish to relive the afternoon again and again, the footage of the 100 Years of Southern Gospel showcase will be available for purchase within the coming months.
Daywind Records is based in Hendersonville, TN, and is distributed worldwide through New Day Christian Distributors.  Daywind is home to such great artists as Karen Peck & New River, Brian Free & Assurance and Greater Vision.  For more information, visit www.daywindrecords.com.
