Kelly Nelon Clark: A Ray of Hope

Kelly Nelon Clark

Kelly Nelon Clark

I spoke to a friend a few days ago and she was asking me to pray for her. She has gone through some tough times and was feeling pretty hopeless, wanting to just give up on life. She was prepared to end it all. With God’s help I was able to open her eyes to life and let her know she was important to Him. I tried to put into words how she felt as it might be an encouragement to others who may be feeling the very same way.

There are days when I have no words for how I’m feeling. I would love to say I’m always up and positive but it wouldn’t be true.

Some days the sun shines and the skies are blue and everything with the world is right. Days when I feel like it could not get any better than it is right now; days when the birds are singing a brand new song just for me. God is everywhere and in everything I see. I can almost smell the beautiful fragrance of His love. His arms surround me and make me feel like I can take on the world. I feel safe and secure knowing He’s here.

Then there are days when the darkness closes in and there is nothing to be seen anywhere. This orphan feels alone, hopeless, and defeated. The tunnel with the light at the end has turned into a black hole with no way out. I call You but You don’t answer. I cry but You don’t see my tears. I wonder what have I done to make You not love me? Where have You gone? I stumble in the darkness to find my way. I fall and keep trying to pick myself up, but how many times can I do that without total collapse?

Kelly Nelon Clark and The Nelons

Just at the breaking point, just when I’m going to give up, there is a break in the cloud of darkness. A ray of hope shines through into my eyes. It’s what I needed to see, it’s what I needed to know. You are still there!

You never really left. It was me who closed my eyes to the light. I let the darkness overtake me. I should have known, I should have remembered that the evil one comes to steal, kill and destroy. Thank You for not giving up on me when I gave up on myself. Thank You for loving me when no one else loved me. Thank You for whispering my name and letting me know I’m not an orphan and I’m not alone.

Lord, I am Your child; keep me near to You.

Kelly Nelon Clark begins filming first lead role

Kelly Nelon Clark

Kelly Nelon Clark has been acting for some time, as reported by SGN Scoops in the August 2014 edition of SGNScoops magazine, when Clark joined the faith-based film The Dancer. She told us in that issue, “I have always loved theater and film. If you look back to around 1980 you can see where I mentioned that it was a secret dream of mine. I have to give credit to a friend in Dallas, Georgia, who invited me to acting classes, Elizabeth Hale. I went with her the first time and I loved it! We all sat around with different scripts and each had our turn. It sounded really good in my head but when it came out the first time I felt heat come to my face. I didn’t quit; I just kept going back every week for that four-hour class. I’m still learning, but I’m loving it.”

Clark told her followers on Facebook today that she starts filming her first lead role on Monday. Author, publisher, screenwriter, actor, and producer of hardcore Christian books and Christian films, Donald James Parker says here, “I have cast her for the lead role in my next film, Old Rugged

Cross, which will be shot in mid May of 2016. I truly think that Kelly can make the crossover very successfully and her fan base will be able to enjoy her talents in both areas for many years to come. I am confident Kelly will become a prominent player in the Indie Christian film arena. Who knows? Perhaps Hollywood will come calling someday with a faith based film that will allow Kelly to take a bigger stage. No one deserves it more.”

“Would you pray for me?” asks Clark. “Without sounding pretentious I start filming a movie, The Old Rugged Cross on Monday with Donald James Parker, Ken Dohse, Juli Tapken and more and these guys are professional and great at what they do. This is my first lead role with lots of dialogue. I’m new at this but I’m excited and ready for this journey. Pray that God will help me in every way to fulfill this role. My plate has been rather full lately but God won’t put you anywhere that He won’t provide what you need. Thank you to Jeff Rose who has coached me and encouraged me. You will never know how much I appreciate it. Thank you to Autumn Nelon Clark for going over my lines with me. I hope I make all of you proud!”

The Nelons Honored With GMA Hall Of Fame Induction

Hendersonville, TN  – In a ceremony held at Lipscomb’s Allen Arena on Tuesday night, award-winning family group The Nelons were among the 2016 inductees into the Gospel Music Association’s Hall Of Fame. Also receiving the honor were Russ Taff, CCLI founder Howard Rachinski and Hezekiah Walker.

Travis Cottrell, Selah and Michael English paid tribute to The Nelons with a medley of their biggest hits, while Bill Gaither offered words of introduction and congratulations to the group. Kelly Nelon Clark spoke on behalf of her family, as well as a large number of past members that were in attendance to commemorate the occasion.

Originally known as The Rex Nelon Singers, Rex Nelon founded the mixed group in 1977, following his tenure with the Lefevres. In 1985, the group shortened their name and became known as The Nelons. Throughout the years, a number of well-known singers and musicians spent time with The Nelons, including Karen Peck, Janet Paschal, Charlotte Ritchie, Katy Peach, Todd Nelon, Paul Lancaster, Jeff Stice and Stan Whitmire, as well as Rex’s daughter Kelly, who continues her father’s legacy into the next generation. Today, the group is comprised of Kelly, her husband Jason Clark, and daughters Amber Nelon Thompson and Autumn Nelon Clark.

The Nelons have released over 40 projects, four of which went on to win a GMA Dove Award for Southern Gospel Album of the Year, in addition to three GRAMMY nominations and more than 20 Top 5 singles. Songs such as ‘Come Morning,’ ‘Oh For A Thousand Tongues To Sing’ and ‘I’m Glad I Know Who Jesus Is’ became staple anthems for the group, and propelled them to the top of Southern Gospel music. Singing News Magazine subscribers honored The Nelons, as well as Rex and Kelly individually, numerous times over the years with accolades such as Favorite Mixed Group, Favorite Vocalist and Favorite Song of the Year. A regular on the Gaither Homecoming Stage, The Nelons have been featured performers on stations such as TBN, Daystar, Christian Television Network, and the 700 Club, as well as the GMA Dove Awards and the National Quartet Convention.

Started in 2015 as The Greatest Hits Tour it was so popular with the fans the artists decided to continue as the Sing Tour. Michael English, The Nelons, and Jeff Stice all had new projects out by early this year and they were receiving so many requests for songs from those projects that they expanded the song selections being performed from their greatest hits to also include new songs.

“I am so excited to be a part of the Sing Tour. While I have been blessed to sing thousands of shows all over the world as a soloist and as a part of groups, this has been one of the best tours I have ever been involved with . I love the Nelons and Jeff Stice for their Ministry heart, friendship and even for the fun we have together. It is not “like” family but it is family.” shares Michael English.

NelonsJeff Stice says, “Since I began this solo career I’ve been able to be a part of a lot of very unique events. The Sing Tour is so much fun and to be a part of the talent that is on that stage with The Nelons and Michael English is just incredible. Night after night I marvel at the number of iconic songs these two artists have introduced to Gospel Music. I’m honored to be a part of this tour but most importantly I’m honored to call each of them my friends.”

The Nelons also recently received the exciting news by the Gospel Music Association that the group will be inducted into the GMA’s Gospel Music Hall Of Fame. The GMA Honors banquet will be held on May 10, 2016 in Nashville, TN.

Michael English Releases New Worship Project

About Michael English

In Michael’s autobiography, The Prodigal Comes Home: My Story of Failure and God’s Story of Redemption (Thomas Nelson, Inc), he gives readers an honest look at the painful path that led him away from God and his family, but more importantly, he shows how God, with grace and mercy, rescued Michael and redeemed his shattered life.

“When the lowest thing that could possibly happen happens; don’t give up, because you might be missing a blessing down the road,” says English. “When I started driving my own life, as though God were like some kind of global positioning system that I could choose to follow or ignore, I turned down dead ends and dark alleys, thinking they were going to lead me somewhere.”

In 2009, Michael’s life came full circle as he returned to the Gaither Vocal Band as their lead singer. After a successful five year run with the GVB, Michael felt called to return to a full time solo career at the end of 2013.

Matthew 7:12 is the twelfth verse of the seventh chapter of the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament and is part of the Sermon on the Mount. This well known verse presents what has become known as the Golden Rule.

In the King James Version of the Bible the text reads:

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do
to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. (Wikipedia)
