People have been asking a lot of questions about the We Love Our Southern Gospel Music History (WLOSGMH) Convention. The interest created has gospel music fans driving and flying from across the states and from the Netherlands. In fact over 37,000 group members are creating the stir with gospel music fans clamoring for more music and history.

This Facebook social media gathering has become the talk of the town as interest grows among gospel music fans to know more about the history of the music, performers and the gospel music foundation. The oral history is passed down today by those “you should have been there stories”, videos, music, and collectors who share their memorabilia. Vendor booths showcase those rare one of a kind records, photos, collectibles and do-dads making it a shoppers paradise.

Those coffee or booth conversations are truly a convention highlight.

WLOSGMH administrator John Crenshaw says, “In addition to our great artists, the WLOSGMH convention will feature some great videos featuring the groups from the past. You’ll see the Statesmen, Rebels, Blackwoods, Singing Americans, Speer Family, Happy Goodmans, Rangers Trio and so many others. Many of these videos are being shown here for the first time in more than forty years.”

One of the highlights of the convention is the show and tell session. Crenshaw states, “Many collectors will bring their prized possessions to share with the group on Tuesday afternoon. Some of the legends of gospel music will share their humorous road stories. The Tuesday evening concert will feature a tribute to some of the great voices of the past. I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but you’ll laugh and cry as you enjoy this tribute.”

Activities for weekend start with members arriving early to participate in a southern gospel tradition, a Red Back Hymnal singing. “On Saturday March 25th from 6-8, many of us will be attending the 4th Annual Rutherford County Red Back Hymnal Singing at Murfreesboro Missionary Baptist Church, 316 Fortress Blvd., Murfreesboro, Tennessee, 37128.” Crenshaw continues. “Although this is not officially a part of the We Love Our Southern Gospel Music Convention, they have been very helpful to us, and we will have a special ticket offer available for those who attend the Singing. It’s a great start to the weekend!”

The WLOSGMH Convention begins Monday, March 27th. Here are some highlights:

The hotel atrium will be open for buyers and sellers at 10:00 a.m.

Williamsons Take Their Ministry to Kisumu, Kenya

Williamsons Take Their Ministry to Kisumu, Kenya

Nashville, TN  The Williamson’s returned to the U.S. on June 27 after spending two weeks on a missions trip in Kisumu, Kenya.  Donnie WilliamsonLisa Chesser Williamson and Karl Rice, along with Donnie and Lisa’s daughters, Sadie and Olivia, boarded a plane on June 14 in hopes of spending time with the people of Kenya and seeing lives changed through the Gospel.  Donnie and Lisa confirmed that their trip exceeded expectations.  While they were there, The Williamsons were busy daily.  They sang, preached, participated in the Pastor’s Conference, visited schools and witnessed 18,000 people make decisions for Christ.  The impact on the ministry team as well as the people of Kisumu was incredible.

The Williamsons trip to Kenya was the third missions trip they’ve taken as a family and group with the Russell Ministry World Missions Team.  Donnie Williamson says, “We rely a great deal on Mike and Jan Russell to plan things.  I’m thankful to Mike and Jan for being so sensitive to the spirit, even on the routing.  This sensitivity has always allowed us safe travel and an ability to see God’s hand in every trip.”  In the next few months, The Williamsons plan to continue celebrating the salvations they witnessed during their time there and working with the World Missions Team to try and get some Bibles sent over to many of the pastors and community members who are currently without.  When the pastors there were asked what they really needed, Bibles were the one thing they mentioned.  The Williamsons will also have the opportunity through the World Missions Team to continue to fund the pastors and the people they impacted during their time there.  The pastors will go back into the schools and hear the stories of life change that happened during those two weeks.  Donnie Williamson says, “The best stories are yet to come.”

The Williamson’s have had a big summer so far.  In the past year, The Williamsons have had three songs in the Singing News Top 40, two in the Top 5, and a Singing News #1 withShout.”  At the Absolutely Gospel Awards, the group was awarded the “Song of the Year.”  The Williamsons are currently nominated in the Top 5 for the Singing News Favorite New Artist and they have also been nominated for five awards in the SGN Scoops Diamond AwardsMixed Group of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Gospel Music Video of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year.  Soon after these nominations, The Williamsons received a nomination for the Christian Voice Magazine Southern Gospel Fan Awards for Favorite Album and Favorite Video.  The Williamsons are so thankful for the blessings the Lord has bestowed on them and are excited to see what the Lord has in store in the second half of the year.

The Williamsons: Breaking Through

Written by Staff on May 17, 2016 – 11:37 am -

Williamsons at Creekside 2015

Williamsons at Creekside 2015

What a joy it is for me to write on a group that is quickly growing in popularity, the Williamsons. I met them a little over a year ago and right off became a fan of their music. 11th Hour has had the opportunity to share the stage with Donnie, Lisa, Karl and Darin on several occasions. Not only have they become one of my favorite groups, they are truly some of my favorite people to be around as well. You can tell exactly where their hearts are, which is definitely on Christ.

The Williamsons started singing in the Midwest around 1969, later to reorganize in 1998. The current group consists of Donnie Williamson and wife, Lisa, Darin Hebert and Karl Rice. The quartet has been nominated for the Breakthrough Artist of the Year and the Fan Favorite awards for Absolutely Gospel Music, as well as the top ten Favorite New Mixed Group for Singing News.

Based out of Wetumka, OK, the Williamsons sing roughly 185 dates per year, but that number is sure to increase with their popularity on the rise. The group just celebrated their first number one song, “Shout”, on the Singing News charts for the month of December. The song was the October top spot winner on the SGN Scoops charts.

“We have been so excited and encouraged by all the wonderful things that have happened with our latest project, Tell Somebody,” Donnie tells us. “Our first single, ‘It Was the Word,’ written by Lisa, was our first top five song on the Singing News charts. The song also went to number two on the SGN Scoops charts. Now, ‘Shout,’ which was written by Lee Black and Gina Boe, has done really well for us. We are truly blessed as the first Southern Gospel group from Oklahoma to achieve this honor.” Read more »

Williamsons Prepare To Take The Gospel To Kenya

Williamsons Prepare To Take The Gospel To Kenya

Williamsons Prepare To Take The Gospel To Kenya

Nashville, TN – Although Southern Gospel Music is heard around the globe in some of the most remote places, it’s rare that an artist is given the opportunity to take their ministry outside of the United States. BMG Management Artist, the Williamsons are preparing now to take their ministry across the Atlantic Ocean to Kenya. They will be joining “The Missions Team,” an outreach of the Gospel Station Network, as they present the Gospel as part of a crusade in Kenya.  The will also  distributing Bibles as a part of the mission. “Last year over 20,000 people received Christ during the crusade and we expect even greater things this year,” stated Lisa Chesser Williamson.

While the crusade doesn’t take place until June, the Williamsons are preparing now to be a part of this incredible event. “Since 1998 we have never made a public plea for support.  However, this will be a costly endeavor and we cannot handle all the expense on our own. We feel the cost will be worth it. If you would like to help, the easiest way would be to donate through a special gofundme account.  To donate, click on https://www.gofundme.com/ppv9zmvw . If you would like to make a TAX deductible gift please send a check to The Russell Ministries, 302 South Main, Wetumka, OK 74883 or go to www.russellministriesinc.org and click on “donate.” Be sure to note that it’s for The Williamsons. Thank you for your part in making this a great crusade,” added Lisa Chesser Williamson.

The Williamsons are having a breakout year with 3 Top 40 Singing News hits including a #1 song and are currently nominated in the Singing News Fan Awards in the Favorite New Artist category. To stay connected with the Williamsons, go to www.williamsonsmusic.com.
