BMI Honors Christian Music’s Best at the 2017 BMI Christian Awards in Nashville

NASHVILLE,  – Broadcast Music, Inc.® (BMI)®, the global leader in music rights management, honored the top 25 songs played on Christian radio during the past year at the 2017 BMI Christian Awards, tonight at BMI’s Nashville offices on Music Row. The annual event celebrates the songwriters and publishers of the past year’s most performed Christian rock, contemporary Christian, inspirational, southern and urban gospel songs on U.S. Christian radio.

“Each year, when we celebrate the incredible music of BMI’s Christian songwriters and their publishers, I think it can’t possibly get any better than this. And every year it does. I’m so impressed and moved by the uplifting songs we honored tonight,” noted Leslie Roberts, Executive Director, Writer/Publisher Relations, Nashville, “We’re privileged to have such a talented group as part of the BMI family.”

The invitation-only event featured special performances, including “Thy Will” by Emily Weisband and Bernie Herms, “Big Enough” by Joseph Habedank, “Fight For You” by Grayson & Reed and “I Am Not Alone” by Kari Jobe.

The Song of the Year title went to “Good Good Father,” written by Tony Brown and published by Capitol CMG Paragon and Common Hymnal Digital. The song was recorded by Chris Tomlin and nominated for a Billboard Music Award for Top Christian Song in 2016.

The Songwriter of the Year award went to Bernie Herms, who wrote “Christ In Me,” “Just Be Held,” “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again” and “Thy Will.”

Capitol CMG Publishing (Capitol CMG Paragon, Meaux Mercy Publishing, Songs of Universal, Inc., Sparrow Song, Universal Music-Brentwood Songs, Worship Together Music) took home the Publisher of the Year award. The company had the highest percentage of copyright ownership among the year’s most-performed songs, including the hits “Battle Cry,” “Cast My Cares,” “Christ In Me,” “Even So Come,” “Feel It,” “Forever,” “Good Good Father,” “Great Are You Lord,” “I Am Not Alone,” “Just Be Held,” “Move (Keep Walkin’),” “Tell Your Heart To Beat Again,” “There is Power” and “Thy Will.”

Karen Peck and New River Signs Long Term Recording and Publishing Agreement with Daywind Records

kp-newriver(Hendersonville, Tenn.) August 14, 2013 – Karen Peck and New River has signed a multi-year recording and publishing agreement with Daywind Records, continuing a relationship between the two that has resulted in many wonderful achievements.

The most recent collaboration “Revival,” releases on 8/27/13 and is perhaps the group’s best recording to date. The songwriting was amped up with the addition of Michael Farren, Kenna Turner West, Jason Cox, Sue Smith, and more. Most exciting is that Karen Peck herself co-wrote songs on the album, including the first single, “Revival.” The Wayne Haun production features wonderful songs about the love and grace of Christ in New River’s award-winning southern and country style. Karen Peck, accompanied by Michael Farren and Kenna Turner West, performed another song from the recording, “Finish Well,” to a standing ovation at the recent BMI Songwriter’s Showcase at the Gospel Music Association’s Immerse event.

“We are thrilled to continue our relationship with Karen, Susan, and Jeff. They are about ministry and are spilling over with talent. God continues to bless their steps and find ways to use them for His glory. We are excited about the future,” said Ed Leonard, president of Daywind Records.

Karen Peck and New River have been blessed with numerous awards and nominations. The group won two Dove Awards in 2012 and has several Singing News Fan Awards and Absolutely Gospel Awards to their credit. Recent years have seen multiple albums nominated for Grammy Awards, many appearances on the Gaither Homecoming tour, and a feature film role for Karen (“Joyful Noise”).

A national study states there are 67,495 homeless Veterans in the U.S. and that means 1 in 4 homeless people are Veterans. homeless vetSunday Drive, recording artist for Lyric House Records and Crossroads Entertainment is teaming up with Radio Stations, Lost Sheep Ministries, and other national organizations to help bring an end to this travesty.

You may ask . . . Why this song? Co-writer Todd Martin is a Homeless Veteran. Todd is a very talented individual who has had trouble finding a long term job and has spent many nights sleeping under bridges, in cars, and anywhere he can find. Hopefully this song will showcase his talent as a writer and open doors for him.

Gerald Crabb Receives BMI Award

IMG_6615June 24, 2013 {Ripley Mississippi}   Broadcast Music, Inc. awarded this past year’s top played songs on Christian radio at the 2013 BMI Christian Awards Ceremony. Multi-Award winning songwriter, Gerald Crabb received the prestigious BMI honor, Southern Gospel Performance Award for “Sometimes I Cry,” performed by Jason Crabb, published by Christian Taylor Music, Gerald Crabb Songs. The Awards Ceremony, held June 18, 2013 at the BMI Nashville headquarters, recognized  the songwriters and publishers of the past year’s most performed Christian music on US radio including: Christian rock, contemporary Christian, inspirational, southern gospel and urban gospel songs.

This year’s accolade is the 8th BMI Performance Award Crabb has received. In 2002, he was also awarded as the BMI Songwriter of the Year and Publisher of the Year. “It’s always an honor to win an award of any kind, especially a BMI Performance Award,” Crabb stated. “These awards are not voted on; they are given based on how many times the song was played in that period. I am very grateful to Jason for recording ‘Sometimes I Cry.’ He put his heart and soul into singing it. I am also grateful to all of the people who bought it and requested it. Most of all, I thank the Lord for giving me a song that speaks to ministry. I am a blessed man.”

About Gerald Crabb:

Born in Rosine, Kentucky, Gerald Crabb was singing by age 5, playing guitar by age 11 and preaching by age 16. During Gerald’s career, he has written over 400 songs with 22 of those claiming the number one spot nationally.  From Jan. 1998-Dec. 2006, one or more of his songs held the number one position on the national southern gospel chart for 37 months out of a 107-month period.

This singer, songwriter, and preacher has appeared on the Gaither Videos, TBN, The 700 Club, the INSP, CMT & GAC.  He has also performed at Carnegie Hall, The Grand Ole Opry, The Ryman Auditorium, Red Rocks Colorado, and The Brooklyn Tabernacle.  Crabb has also received numerous accolades, awards, honors and awards during his career span including multiple Songwriter of the Year awards as well as the 2011 Dove Award for Songwriter of the Year and Song of the Year for “Sometimes I Cry.”

Rodney Birch Signs With Asheville Music Publishing

ARDEN, NC – December 19, 2012 – Rodney Birch has signed a long-term exclusive publishing contract with Asheville Music RodneyBirchPublishing (BMI), an imprint of Crossroads Music Publishing, a division of Crossroads Entertainment & Marketing.

Birch recently garnered his first #1 song, “Battle Stand” (The Old Paths). The song is #1 on the December 2012 Singing News Radio Airplay charts. He also wrote two currently climbing hit songs, “God’s Great” (Old Paths) and “Come and See” (The LeFevre Quartet).

Greg Bentley, Director of Publishing for Crossroads Music Publishing, states. “I’ve been working with Rodney for quite a few years now, and have seen his writing ability grow with each year. Daywind Writers And Artists Recognized At 2011 BMI Christian Music Awards

Marty Funderburk, Rick Shelton & Ed LeonardHendersonville, TN (April 11, 2011) – Daywind Music Group was well-represented last Monday night at the 2011 BMI Christian Award Ceremony, which honored the year’s most–played songs, writers, and publishers.  Greater Vision baritone and accomplished songwriter, Rodney Griffin, was recognized as Songwriter of the Year, along with tobyMac and Bo Rinehart.   Two of his songs, “It Pays To Pray,” performed by Greater Vision, and “He Locked The Gates,” by the Kingdom Heirs, were named among the top songs in Christian music for 2011.  Also recognized was the Booth Brothers’, “Stuff Of Life,” written by Jim Brady, as well as the first song Daywind writer Marty Funderburk wrote for BMI, the Talley Trio’s, “Life Goes On.”   Triumphant Quartet also performed the award winning song, written by Wayne Haun and Joel Lindsey, “When The Trumpet Sounds,” off their Daywind Records project, Everyday.
