Update On Gatlinburg

PIGEON FORGE, Tennessee -Pigeon Forge tourism officials are reinforcing that the city’s many attractions, theaters, restaurants and lodging properties are operating as usual after recent wildfires in the area. The announcement comes after Gatlinburg Mayor Mike Werner encouraged visitation to the area as a show of support.

“If you really want to do something for Gatlinburg, come back and visit us,” Werner said in a Nov. 30 press conference.

“Many of our city’s 6,000 residents, as well as those of our friends and family in Gatlinburg, are dependent on the tourism industry for jobs to care for themselves and their families,” said Leon Downey, Pigeon Forge executive director of tourism. “As our communities move forward, our industry has an obligation to our residents and employees to encourage visitation to the area and sustain our businesses.”

Pigeon Forge businesses were not damaged during this week’s fires, and businesses are operating as usual. The city’s Winterfest festival continues, including several Christmas shows at various theaters. Dollywood theme park reopens on Friday, Dec. 2. Restaurants and lodging properties are operating on normal schedules.

City-wide support includes 30 Pigeon Forge firefighters currently stationed in Wears Valley.

Of the 500 evacuees in Pigeon Forge, fewer than 20 remain in the Pigeon Forge Community Center shelter.

“We are heartbroken by the devastation we’ve seen in Gatlinburg,” said Pigeon Forge City Manager Earlene Teaster. “But I speak on behalf of all our Pigeon Forge tourism partners when I say that we offer our constant prayers and encouragement for everyone affected and stand alongside them as they work to rebuild.”

The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) and Tennessee Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (TN VOAD) have set up a call center to provide information for those who would like to donate goods and volunteer to help survivors. For a list of the most-needed items, please visit http://mypf.social/pfdonationneeds. The call center is staffed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily; the phone number is 866-586-4483.

To support displaced residents and visitors, Pigeon Forge established a distribution center to disperse donated food and supplies. Located just off the Parkway in Pigeon Forge in the former Boyds Bear building at 149 Cates Lane, the facility is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Fire Sweeps Gatlinburg

Fire Sweeps Gatlinburg

SGNScoops was saddened to hear of the wildfires sweeping down from the mountains of North Carolina towards Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. We have heard that many structures and homes in Gatlinburg were destroyed or damaged by fire.

We have also heard that those fires are even now threatening areas of Pigeon Forge and Sevierville County. Many of you attended Creekside 2016 at the Smoky Mountain Convention Center. The town including many businesses, homes, and even the home of Creekside are even now under threat of Fire and smoke damage.

We are asking all of our friends and readers to please Pray for the areas of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge that are threatened by great loss. Please continue to pray that no lives are lost. Our hearts also reach out to those who have already lost their homes.

Abraham Productions Announces Date Change For Gatlinburg Gathering

Written by SGN Scoops on September 5, 2012 – 1:16 pm -

Clemmons, NC – Abraham Productions President, Ray Flynn, announced this week that the Gatlinburg Gathering, a successful Southern Gospel event which has been held in Gatlinburg, TN on Labor Day Weekend for the past decade, will move to July 3-6 in 2013.  It has not been determined if this will be a temporary or permanent change for the event at this time.

In recent years, the event has seen significant growth and expansion, and continues to feature the top national names in Southern Gospel Music, as well as the nation’s most prominent speakers, evangelists and pastors.

Flynn said that Abraham Productions and its Board of Directors have considered the move for a period of time; however, the decision was not made until the day before this year’s event started on August 30.  Flynn stated that many factors played into this move, but one of the most important reasons is to hopefully help bring attention to the need for America to return to its Christian values and heritage.

During the announcement of the change in date to the concert attendees, Flynn encouraged them to bring their adult children and grandchildren to the July 3-6, 2013 event.  The event in July will still feature the biggest names in Southern Gospel Music, as well as quality speakers. Additionally, several unique showcases and will also allow attendees to experience a very exciting midnight Independence Day Parade through the main street in Gatlinburg. The parade will salute the valiant men and women of our military services, who Flynn called the real heroes of America. After the concert ends at approximately 10:30pm on July 3, all attendees will be given free Christian and American flags to take to the parade.

At present time, almost all of the Southern Gospel artists who performed on this year’s event had already committed to perform during the new dates in July 2013. Additionally, even some additional groups will be added to make the Gatlinburg Gathering a highly attractive event for Southern Gospel Music fans.

In 2012, attendance was near capacity each day with people who traveled from more than 30 states to attend the Gathering at the Gatlinburg Convention Center, which has become a favorite among Southern Gospel Music fans.
A complete list of featured artists and speakers scheduled to appear at the event in 2013 will soon be made available at www.abrahamproductions.net.
