Written by Scoops Staff on June 23, 2011 – 1:03 pm -

Four-day event to include Dino, HisSong and others and will benefit Convoy Of Hope Disaster Relief

BRANSON, Mo. – (June 23, 2011) – The Branson Gospel Music Revival (formerly Convention) is returning to Branson, Missouri for the third time next week. The four-day annual event heads to a new venue this year, the Tri-Lakes Center, 2527 State Highway 248 in Branson.

Taking place Tuesday, June 28 – Friday, July 1, the gospel celebration consists of daily matinee and evening concerts featuring approximately 75 Gospel musicians from across the United States.

Dino, HisSong, Beyond the Ashes, Kenny Bishop, Ann Downing, Mike Allen, The Williamsons, Praise Incorporated, 2nd Generation, Voices of Glory, Jay Stone Singers, McMillan and Life, Rod Burton, Lynda Lynn, Sunday Edition, Mystery Men, and more will be part of the Revival, which organizers say puts the spotlight on the gospel message.

Also returning will be the popular SGN Scoops Diamond Awards, as well as the Tribute to Albert Brumley and  “Piano Praise” segments. Additionally, a  “New Faces” afternoon concert geared toward teens and those “young at heart” has been added. A Branson GMR Prayer Team, who will pray with audience members and artists alike during the week, is a new addition this year as well.

“We continue to learn and grow and are striving to make this an even more enjoyable event, one that continues to attract new people to this great city every summer,” co-owner and host Rod Burton stated. “Meanwhile, our focus continues to be on fostering a time of refreshing and encouragement for our artists as well as the audience.”

Having won the “Pacesetter of the Year” award from AbsolutelyGospel.com for the second consecutive year, Burton and his wife and partner, Kelly Burton, look forward to building on the success of what they still consider a very new event.

“It has been a true honor to receive some Gospel industry accolades,” Kelly mentions. “What we hope that sort of recognition translates to is more people coming to hear the truly fantastic artists who gather here with us in Branson every summer, so they can receive the message of faith being offered through gospel music.”

On that note, the couple has announced that Wednesday, June 29, will be “Disaster Relief Night” at the Revival, with a portion of all ticket and program book proceeds going to aid victims of Branson and Hollister area flooding as well as the recent catastrophic tornado in Joplin, Missouri. Donations will be made to the Assemblies of God relief organization Convoy of Hope, which has already provided substantial assistance throughout the region.

Concerts are scheduled daily Tuesday, June 28 through Friday, July 1 from noon-4:00 p.m. and again from 6:00 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Ticket prices start at $18.00 per day for adults and can be purchased by calling the Tri Lakes Center at 1-800-785-1550 or 417-336-0219.

“Good News Music Radio with Woody Wright” tops 70 station adds!

Written by SGN Scoops Staff on April 18, 2011 – 4:28 pm -

Peoria, IL (April 18, 2011) – “Good News Music Radio with Woody Wright”, the latest 1-hour radio program produced by Electric Station Records and hosted by singer, songwriter Woody Wright, has now been added by over 70 stations in just 6 months.  While the majority of the stations are in the US and Canada, some of the international locations include stations in England, Scotland, Grenada, Aruba, Guam, Republic of Vanuatu and New Zealand.

“We’re all very thankful for the overwhelmingly positive response,” said E-Station Records President, D. Scott Kramer. “While Woody Wright and I had worked with many of the same studio musicians and singers over the years, we hadn’t officially met until June of 2010.  It was then he graciously accepted our offer to host the label’s new radio program and we had our first session at Gaither Studios in August, 2010.  The first airing of the program was with a Moody Affiliate, WBNH in Pekin, IL on September 4, 2010.  In October, 2010, we started to market the program to stations and then made it available for national and international syndication on January 1, 2011. While we’ve all felt strongly about the program, we’ve been pleasantly surprised by the fast response and positive feedback,” Kramer added.

Each of the hourly programs features music from today’s top southern gospel artists, encouraging ministry, gospel classics from days gone by, a variety of fun program segments and even artist interviews.  Some of the interviews to date have been with Jeff & Sheri Easter, Russ Taff, Guy Penrod, Buddy Greene, Reggie & Ladye Love Smith, David Sutton of the Triumphant Quartet, Kenny Bishop, Larry Strickland of Palmetto State Quartet, Michael Sykes and Stephen Hill.

Also coming in the fall of 2011, is a “Good News Music Radio with Woody Wright” concert series.  Dates have already been established at the Paramount Theatre in Anderson, IN and at Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, IL.  Each concert will be formatted after the radio program and will feature music from a variety of artists.

Kenny Bishop Helps Raise Funds at National Guard Youth Foundation’sSixth Annual ChalleNGe Champions Gala in Washington, DC Celebration Honored 100,000 Graduates of the Foundation’s National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program

Written by SGN Scoops Staff on March 8, 2011 – 11:53 am -

WASHINGTON, DC, (March 3, 2011) – Christian music recording artist Kenny Bishop recently performed in Washington, DC for the National Guard Youth Foundation’s (NGYF) Sixth Annual ChalleNGe Champions Gala. The event was held at the JW Marriott Hotel and is organized each year to raise funds and awareness for the program that provides education, support and guidance for troubled and at-risk teenagers in their home states.

“This was my introduction to the program,” Bishop said. “I thought I was prepared to go up there, do my part, appreciate the cause and go home. But I’ve fallen in love with these cadets, their stories and their resolve to succeed in life when everything in their world is fighting hard against it.”

Bishop joined “American Idol” winner Kris Allen, singer/actor Tyler Hilton, actress Karri Turner, singers Gretchen Wilson and Laura Bryna, “Apprentice II” winner Kelly Purdew, NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr., NASCAR owner Rick Hendrick, Indy car drivers JR Hildebrand and Martin Plowman, John Barnes of Panther Racing, Miss Indiana Nicole Pollard and WWE wrestlers Sgt. Slaughter and Kofi Kingston to help raise over $3 million for the program.

“The highlight of my ChalleNGe experience was working with cadets Janette Garcia-Garay from California and Eric Rivera from Alaska,” Bishop said. “We had two days to put together a mash-up. When show time arrived and the lights came up, these kids took to the stage and just blew us away. The crowd fell in love and I felt like a very, very proud dad.”

Besides the entertainers, several state’s governors and adjutant generals, U.S. Representatives and Senators, Pentagon and White House officials, military generals and corporate leaders were in attendance.

“With all of the celebrity and power in that room, it was still the cadets who stood tallest,” Bishop said. “Their stories all started with disappointment and heart break, but thanks to the ChalleNGe program, they’re finding hope and promise for more successful and happier endings.”

The National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program is a 17-month voluntary program with a 5.5-month residential phase and 12-month mentoring phase. There are 33 program sites in 27 states and Puerto Rico. Since its inception in 1993, more than 100,000 students have graduated from the Program.

ADDITIONAL QUOTES:
“While there are many good programs that help prevent kids from dropping out of school, there are few, if any, that help them once they’ve dropped out. The National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program offers a future of promise to those who have the will and desire to pursue it. The Program is a ‘hand up,’ not a ‘hand out,’ that provides youths with the tools, support and knowledge they need to start believing in themselves again. We’ve lost so many to this national epidemic and the Youth ChalleNGe Program is putting a stop to that trend.”
-U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu

“Because of the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program, every one of our cadets has earned something they never thought they would have — a future. Perhaps most important, they will not be counted among the 33 million young men and women without a high school degree in this country. The Gala was a great opportunity to celebrate the Youth ChalleNGe Program and its fundamental role in creating better lives and communities.”
-General Craig R. McKinley, chief, National Guard Bureau

“The ChalleNGe Champions Gala is always a special night — one that gives the National Guard Youth Foundation the opportunity to raise awareness of the drop out problem, and the tremendous impact the National Guard is having through the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program. In addition to the human cost, the failure to educate 1/3 of our kids is an economic crisis and it is a national security crisis. Youth ChalleNGe gives these young men and women, like our 100,000th cadet graduate representative, Tori Walston, a second chance. It is transforming lives and making a difference.”
– Gail Dady, president of the National Guard Youth Foundation Board of Directors

About the National Guard Youth Foundation The National Guard Youth Foundation is a non-profit 501(c) (3) whose mission is to support the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program in its efforts to raise awareness of the growing high school dropout crisis in the nation and its impact on the economy and national security. The National Guard Youth Foundation provides the ChalleNGe Program with scholarships, training and workforce transition assistance to graduates, while also increasing the visibility of the program and advocating for program goals and funding. In cooperation with the ChalleNGe Program, the National Guard Youth Foundation assists youths who drop out of secondary school to improve their life skills, education and employability, creating the next generation of skilled workforce in America. KENNY BISHOP TO PERFORM AT NATIONAL GUARD EVENT IN WASHINGTON DC

Written by Scoops Staff on February 15, 2011 – 9:33 am -

LEXINGTON, KY – Recording artist Kenny Bishop is scheduled to travel to the nation’s capitol for the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Champions Gala. The sixth annual event will take place on March 1st at the JW Marriott Hotel, just across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House.

“To be involved in this event is an incredible honor,” Bishop said. “Performing in the very center of the nation’s capitol, in the shadow of the White House and with so many very high officials and dignitaries who are expected to be in the room, I want to make sure I represent the redemption message well.”

According to the organization’s web site, the mission of the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program is to intervene in and reclaim the lives of 16-18 year old high school dropouts, producing program graduates with the values, life skills, education and self-discipline necessary to succeed as productive citizens.

The program is available in nearly every state. Cadets live on a military base while enrolled.

“This really is a fantastic opportunity for all of us who believe in the message and hope of second chances,” Bishop said. “It works both ways really, because the National Guard is taking chances on hundreds of young people, many who’ve reached the end of solutions for their needs. Now I’ve been asked to enjoy the beauty of reclaiming them.”

Each year the National Guard Youth Foundation hosts the Annual ChalleNGe Champion’s Gala in Washington DC to raise awareness and support for the National Guard Youth CalleNGe Program. The event includes a reception, auctions, dinner and entertainment, along with inspirational messages by celebrities and successful cadets. Guests include governors, members of Congress, Department of Defense officials, senior National Guard and military leaders, program directors, cadets, national celebrities, corporate and community officials and members of the press. Funds raised create scholarships for graduates of the ChalleNGe Program.

Bishop has partnered with producer Woody Wright to arrange a medley for an ensemble performance that will include several of the ChalleNGe cadets. The song will be performed during the main event. Other guests scheduled to appear include singers Gretchen Wilson and Kris Allen, along with actor Karri Turner, drivers Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and JR Hildebrand and others.

More information on the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program can be found at www.ngyf.org.
