Award-winning songwriter Marty Funderburk to remain with Daywind Music Publishing

unnamedHENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (March 4, 2015) – Dove Award winner Marty Funderburk has signed an exclusive agreement to remain as a part of the Daywind Music Publishing roster of songwriters. The veteran Funderburk has been affiliated with Daywind Music Publishing for the past 17 years.

“Songwriting is a privilege I hope I never take for granted,” explains Funderburk. “Daywind Publishing has nurtured my creativity and allowed me the freedom to express that which God places in my heart for the past 17 years. I look forward to all that God has in store as we re-commit ourselves to moving forward with the work at hand.”

While he has had dozens of songs land on the radio charts, Funderburk has had two No. 1 singles – the Kingdom Heirs’ hit “Forever Changed” and the Talley Trio’s chart-topping “Life Goes On.” His songs have been recorded by Kenny Rogers, Ricky Skaggs and the Whites, Gold City, Jake Hess, Janet Paschal, Sisters, Brian Free & Assurance, the Hoppers, the Blackwood Brothers, Greater Vision, Mark Lowry, Karen Peck and New River, The Mark Trammell Trio, the Perrys, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound and the Bowlings.

Of his nine Dove Award nominations, the latest came earlier in 2014, with Funderburk’s Christmas musical – “The Highest Glory” – winning the Dove Award for Musical of the Year.

Daywind Artists and Songwriters Honored at the 45th Annual GMA Dove Awards

HENDERSONVILLE, TN – October 8, 2014 Daywind Records’ artists and songwriters received several Dove Awards at the 45th Annual GMA Dove Awards held last night at Allen Arena on the campus of David Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. The Dove Awards program airs globally on the Trinity Broadcasting Network on Sunday, October 12, 2014.

Karen Peck and New River, along with songwriters Kenna West, Karen Peck and Don Poythress, received the Dove Award for Southern Gospel Song of the Year for their #1 hit “Revival.”  “Revival” was the theme of a rousing segment on the show which also featured Brian Free and Assurance, Gordon Mote, and Ernie Haase and Signature Sound. After the win, Karen commented to the press gathered, “We grew up singing at those old time tent revivals, and we’ve been praying this year that God would just revive this world.”

Brian Free and Assurance won a Dove Award for their performance of the song “Say Amen.”  The song, from the album Unashamed, was awarded the Dove for Southern Gospel Performance of the Year. Produced by Daywind songwriter, Ricky Free, the song stayed in the top 10 of the Singing News radio charts for 4 months and is the leading contender for the top-charting song of the year for 2014.

What a Mighty Sound at the Republican National Convention

Hendersonville, TN (August 30, 2012) – Nashville songwriter and producer, Marty Funderburk, received news last week that his composition, “What a Mighty Sound”, will be performed live at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, FL following Governor Mitt Romney’s address. To mark the close of the event, the vocal group Seven will present this stirring anthem that speaks to freedom and liberty.

“This is an unexpected honor! I want to thank the group Seven for taking this song to places I never could have imagined!” shares Marty Funderburk.

Rick Shelton Named VP of Daywind Music Publishing

Hendersonville, TN (March 9, 2012) – With 40 #1 songs, 2 BMI Christian Publisher of the Year nods and 10 GMA Dove Awards, including 2011 Song of the Year winner, “Sometimes I Cry,” Daywind Music Publishing has established a strong foothold in Christian music publishing.  In recognition of his leadership towards this end, Rick Shelton has been named Vice President.

Since joining Daywind in 2004, Shelton has signed hit songwriters and forged a strategic partnership with Lifeway Worship enabling Daywind to start a choral print division.  The most recent offering, “Love Won,” by Kenna Turner-West is up for a GMA Dove Award this year for Best Musical.

New Covenant Releases New Project with Heartwarming Records

Heartwarming Records ( a division of Homeland Entertainment Group) has just released a new project for New Covenant from Daniels, WV.

Dixie Melody Boys Finish Historic Album

The Dixie Melody Boys were recently in Nashville finishing work on their 50th Anniversary album, “The Call Is Still The

Same”. The monumental project is a long time in the making. “It’s been nearly ten years since we have done a project of this scale. It will be a milestone for the Dixie Melody Boys. “said Ed O’Neal, Hall Of Fame bass singer and owner. To honor the history of this legendary group, they have included two previous DMB songs on the album. The rest of the project includes new material written by Gospel musics top writers including Daryl Williams, Marty Funderburk, Greg Day and Rodney Griffen. The album also boasts two songs written by lead singer Donald Morris. The new album highlights the current groups new direction and sound. “We are excited to blend our traditional Southern Gospel roots with a fresh approach reminisant of the DMB Band era.” stated Donald Morris.

The Dixie Melody Boys will be joined on this historic album by many former DMB Alumni as well as a few friends. “When we started working on this, so many of our friends wanted to be involved. It evolved from there into having them lend their talents on several of the songs. It will truly be a special event for us.” said tenor Matt Felts. Daywind Writers And Artists Recognized At 2011 BMI Christian Music Awards

Marty Funderburk, Rick Shelton & Ed LeonardHendersonville, TN (April 11, 2011) – Daywind Music Group was well-represented last Monday night at the 2011 BMI Christian Award Ceremony, which honored the year’s most–played songs, writers, and publishers.  Greater Vision baritone and accomplished songwriter, Rodney Griffin, was recognized as Songwriter of the Year, along with tobyMac and Bo Rinehart.   Two of his songs, “It Pays To Pray,” performed by Greater Vision, and “He Locked The Gates,” by the Kingdom Heirs, were named among the top songs in Christian music for 2011.  Also recognized was the Booth Brothers’, “Stuff Of Life,” written by Jim Brady, as well as the first song Daywind writer Marty Funderburk wrote for BMI, the Talley Trio’s, “Life Goes On.”   Triumphant Quartet also performed the award winning song, written by Wayne Haun and Joel Lindsey, “When The Trumpet Sounds,” off their Daywind Records project, Everyday.

Rick Shelton, Director of Publishing at Daywind Music, shares, “We are grateful for BMI’s continued support of Gospel Music.  It was an exciting event to witness Marty Funderburk receive his first BMI award.  We are thrilled for him, Rodney and Jim.  Their God-given talent is a blessing to all who are touched by their music.”

The awards recognized songs in five different categories of Christian music: Southern Gospel, Christian Rock, Contemporary Christian, Inspirational, and Urban Gospel, in addition to awards for the overall Song, Songwriter and Publisher of the Year.
