THE MARTINS Are STILL STANDING and Celebrating an All-new Release Following Tandem Jump
Written by SGN Scoops Staff on April 16, 2018 – 10:07 am -NASHVILLE, Tenn. —On April 11th, recording artists The Martins joined the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion Nashville list of tandem jumpers as the Army Golden Knights returned to middle Tennessee. The multi-GRAMMY® and Dove-nominated trio took to the air together, rising to an altitude of around 12,500 feet above the earth and performed tandem jumps from their plane, falling at speeds in excess of 120 mph.
The siblings–Judy Martin Hess, Joyce Martin Sanders and Jonathan Martin–collectively known as The Martins, enjoyed smooth landings and found they were “still standing,” as they applauded the Army Golden Knights team and also announced their all-new studio recording entitled Still Standing (Gaither Music Group).
“One of the things that’s amazing to me is that we are still creating music that we love,” stated Joyce. “We are not tired of doing this; we love being together; and we still have the capability to communicate what we want to say and to see those things come together in a creative and inspiring way. We are grateful to have recorded some good things in the past that we have loved singing. To still be able to record new music and be proud of it is exciting. It’s the same story…but a new chapter for us.”
The new recording follows the group’s recording A Cappella (Gaither Music Group), which received a 2015 GRAMMY® nomination for Best Roots Gospel Album, debuted at #2 on the Southern Gospel chart and landed at #17 on the Contemporary Christian Music chart according to Nielsen Soundscan.
Still Standing will be exclusively distributed by Capitol Christian Distribution and Universal Music and will available in the general marketplace and at retail and digital outlets worldwide including iTunes, Amazon, www.gaither.com and www.martinsonline.com.
The new recording will air as part of a special TV offer on RFD-TV, TBN, Gaither Television Network, PBS, DISH TV, DirecTV, FamilyNet, CTN, GMC, GMTN, Guardian, Liberty, TCT and TLN. It will air in Canada on Vision TV, CTS, The Miracle Channel and Hope TV. It will be promoted via a social media campaign, positioned in retail/e-tail outlets everywhere, featured in the Gaither Catalog Collection and on the Gaither web site and aired on the “HOMECOMING Weekly” program on Sirius XM.

GRAMMY-NOMINATED VOCAL GROUP THE MARTINS TO MAKE TANDEM JUMP WITH ARMY GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Written by SGN Scoops Staff on April 4, 2018 – 8:55 am -NASHVILLE, Tenn. -One of Christian music’s most popular recording artists will join the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion Nashville list of tandem jumpers as the Army Golden Knights return to middle Tennessee April 10-13.
Multi-GRAMMY® and Dove-nominated recording artist The Martins, who hail from Hamburg, AR, will be among the jumpers this year. The jumps will be held each day at Outlaw Field in Clarksville, TN. Sisters, Judy Martin Hess, Joyce Martin Sanders and brother, Jonathan Martin, collectively known as The Martins, will be jumping on Wednesday, April 11. They’ll join the list of past tandem jumpers including: Darryl Worley, Craig Morgan, Kellie Pickler and members of Little Big Town.
“We have spent our entire lives together,” said Judy Martin Hess. “With only three years between us, we have always been close as siblings. While sharing a music career since we were children, we have literally accumulated a lifetime of memories. So it only makes perfect sense that we would jump out of an airplane together!”
Hess said she and her siblings were honored to be selected to be jumpers. They’ll be bringing many of their family members along with them to share in this special day. “The Golden Knights are a group of brave people who keep all of us safe every day by defending our country,” Hess shared. “We are eternally grateful for the sacrifices they make. Now we are putting our trust in them to give us an experience of a lifetime!”
“We’re excited to have one of the U.S. Army’s elite units back in the middle Tennessee area this year,” said Lt. Col. Kevin M. Polosky, commander of the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion Nashville. “Our event last year was quite successful, and we’re grateful to have another opportunity this year.” Polosky said jumpers were nominated by local Army recruiters. The jumpers are a diverse group of educators, entertainers, civic leaders and sports figures.
Last year, Christian performers Gary Chapman and Brandon Heath both jumped. They were so well-received the battalion reached out for a more traditional group. “We had initially hoped we could get one member of The Martins to jump,” Polosky said. “We quickly learned that The Martins are a package deal, and all three were willing to participate.”
Tandem jumpers are attached to an experienced Golden Knights’ jumper. The pair will exit the aircraft from up to one mile off the ground and then land on Clarksville’s Outlaw Field.
Jumps are made only after a bloc of training and time to familiarize with their jumper. Once tandem partners are fitted with their jump suits, they will board the aircraft. The tandem duos usually have a one-minute free fall before their parachutes are open. Upon landing, they are interviewed by Golden Knights’ personnel who will take video footage and still photographs of their jump.
Millions of people throughout the world come to see the Golden Knights each year at more than 100 demonstration sites across the nation and abroad. Demonstration teams can support events with two totally different shows staged at an altitude of 12,500 feet above the earth. Team members demonstrate the maneuverability of the human body while falling at speeds in excess of 120 mph.
United States Army Parachute Team was founded in 1959. By 1962, the team earned the nickname the “Golden Knights.” The color “Golden” signified the gold medals the team had won while “Knights” alluded to the team’s ambition to conquer the skies.

More About Bill Gaither
An avid fan of gospel quartets throughout his childhood, Bill founded his first group, The Bill Gaither Trio, in 1956, while he was a college student. He began teaching English in 1959 because his musical aspirations couldn’t support him full-time… yet. In 1962, Bill did one of the best things he has ever done. He married Gloria Sickal, who became the best writing partner Bill could have found anywhere. The couple spent the first five years of their married life juggling full-time teaching jobs, writing, singing, recording and publishing until music became their full-time career in 1967.
The collaborations of Bill and Gloria have resulted in more than 700 popular gospel songs, including the hymnal standard “Because He Lives,” “The King Is Coming,” “Something Beautiful,” “He Touched Me,” “It Is Finished,” “There’s Something About That Name,” “Let’s Just Praise The Lord,” and “Loving God, Loving Each Other.” Bill and Gloria have collectively won eight Grammy Awards and more than a dozen nominations, and they have received more than two dozen Dove Awards from The Gospel Music Association, earning the title of Gospel Music Association’s “Songwriter of the Year” eight times.
After decades of unprecedented musical successes, Bill and Gloria still operate their business from Bill’s hometown of Alexandria, Indiana, and they dwell in the same home in which they raised their family. They live a lifestyle focused on investing their resources into eternal things.
“Our calling is not just making music… but communicating the reality of Christ. That might mean birthing a song about Him or simply offering a cup of cold water to someone who needs it. Gloria and I have never claimed to have God figured out, but we do know that if He could use two imperfect people like us to communicate His Truth to the world, He can use everyone sitting in the audience, working on our staff or singing with us. If we have done anything right over the years, I hope we have built bridges where people could connect with God and with each other. That is what started us writing and what will keep us going for the rest of our lives.” [From Gaither.com December 10, 2016. http://gaither.com/artists/bill-gaither]
