McMillan and Life needs our prayers

Written by Staff on October 13, 2016 – 4:52 am -

Ashli McMillan Doolin

Ashli McMillan Doolin

Jimmy McMillan of duo McMillan and Life – and his family – need our prayer. McMillan’s daughter, Ashli, 32, is in the end stages of brest cancer.

Jimmy says, “Never in a million years would I have dreamed life would bring us all to this place. Watching as my beautiful Ashli McMillan Doolin fades away before our eyes. Knowing the end is quickly approaching…In the few moments when Ashli is able to rest I watch her sleep and try to think on all the good moments we’ve had and push the thoughts of the present to the back of my mind. Sometimes it works but mostly it doesn’t.

McMillan and Life

McMillan and Life

“There comes a point in every battle where the outcome is clear and one must simply pray for and embrace the peace that comes with it’s end. Tonight as I care for my little girl, I have come to that decisive moment. It’s a moment where the desire to see her suffer no more outweighs my selfish desire to not experience the pain of losing her. When I know that nothing we can do will relieve her pain or soothe her continual restlessness. In this moment, as we can see our time running out, it’s more clear than ever that without a miraculous healing, she will only experience this relief when she is in the presence of Jesus. So tonight my prayer is Lord please move to heal my child however you see fit, just heal her.”

Please join all of us at SGNScoops as we pray for Ashli, her husband and young son, Jimmy, Liz, and their whole family. They are in need of strength, grace and peace that can only come from our heavenly Father.

Please leave your notes of encouragement on Jimmy’s Facebook page here.

Deborah Avans-Peek on this edition of SGN Scoops’ Fast Five

Written by Staff on March 17, 2016 – 12:21 pm -

Deborah Avans-Peek

Deborah Avans-Peek

Welcome to another edition of SGN Scoops’ Fast Five! Today we talk to Deborah Avans-Peek about her solo ministry as a Christian Country and Southern Gospel artist. Her clear soprano vocals have a definite tinge of Country and her story will amaze you as it is a reminder how God keeps us all in His hands. From adoption to abuse to cancer, she has kept on singing. After a foray into Country music, Deborah once again sings for the Lord. I know you will be encouraged by her story. Be sure to follow the links to listen to her music as well.

Deborah Avans-Peek, we present to you the SGN Scoops’ Fast Five!

SGN: Hi Deborah! We’d love to know more about you. Tell us about the beginning of your ministry!

DAP: Singer/Songwriter Deborah Avans-Peek grew up on Cumberland mountain,  in a rural area at Hytop, Alabama, just three  miles south of the Tennessee state line.  She grew up singing in church and gives credit for her ability to sing to God. She sang in school events and church and was a member of a Gospel quartet at the early age of 15.  She says, “My uncle was a preacher and I had another uncle that was a song leader. I have a lot of close relatives that sing Gospel music too.”  In 2008, Deborah recorded her first Gospel CD titled Living In The Rain, a cover song that was recorded by Jeff and Sheri Easter. The project was recorded with Eddie Crook Company, on the Cedar Hill Records label, and was produced by A&R director, Scott Godsey.  The album received much radio play in 2008.

SGN: Please tell our readers about your walk with Christ.

DAP: Deborah was born in a small town on the outskirts of Chicago, IL.,  and was adopted at the age of two by a couple from Alabama.  Deborah says, “I always knew I was adopted, and I am so proud I have Christian parents who took me to church. I am so thankful for my raising.” When Deborah graduated high school, she married and the marriage developed into an abusive one. After being married for 14 years, it ended in divorce.  She recorded a Country music CD and moved close to Nashville to pursue a career in Country music.  She made a lot of friends in the music business and was a regular backstage at the Opry. “I even sang on the Opry and I got to sing at the Ryman,” she states.  She toured and sang with a band for about six years. Deborah says, “Everywhere I sang, people would always say, ‘You should be singing Gospel music.’”  It didn’t take long to realize that Country music was not what God wanted for her.

In 2007, Deborah moved back to Alabama to help her mother after her father passed away. She felt as if she had come full circle. “God watched over me and brought me back to where He wanted me.”  In 2008, she recorded her first Gospel CD titled Living In The Rain, and she began sharing her testimony and sharing the Gospel while singing at churches.  Deborah was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 and had to put her ministry on hold for a while to recover. After undergoing a double mastectomy, 28 radiation treatments, 12 rounds of chemotherapy and several surgeries, she has made a full recovery and is now cancer free.  “I know God has healed me and watched over me and for some reason he is not finished with me yet. There is more of His work to do. My mother and my mother-in-law both are also breast cancer survivors.”

SGN: What about your family? Please tell us about your children and grandchildren.

DAP: Deborah lives close to Scottsboro, Alabama with her husband Chris and two sons that are school age. They are members of Agape Baptist Church in Scottsboro, Alabama.  They have three sons, two daughters, and six grandbabies. Her hobbies include singing, songwriting, and cooking because she loves trying new recipes. “I love sewing and I make my grandbabies clothes sometimes. I also love painting and making crafts and things that I see on Pinterest.” She also takes care of her mother who is now in nursing care and has Alzheimer’s.  Once a month she sings at the nursing home where her mother lives.

SGN: How do we find out more about you, your tour schedule and how to contact you?

DAP:  If you would like Deborah to visit your church or venue and share her ministry, you can call  256-244-1550 or send a message via email at deborahavans@hotmail.com. “Like” Deborah’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/AvansDeborah and purchase songs at www.cdbaby.com/Artist/DeborahAvansPeek. Deborah is currently booking for 2016.

SGN: What are some of the goals you have for your ministry?

DAP:  “I just want to be out there with the people who have hurt and struggles, to encourage them and let them know you CAN be strong. God will never leave you; even when you think He’s so far away, He’s not, and He will always rescue you when HE decides it’s time,” she states. “Going through divorce, abuse, abandonment, homelessness and brokenness in the past and then cancer, I know what it’s like to struggle, BUT GOD is Good!”

Deborah is looking forward to working on a new cd project for this year which will allow her to keep sharing the gospel.

Thank you so much Deborah for sharing your incredible story with us and reminding us about the goodness of God. We encourage our readers to visit Deborah’s Facebook page and CD Baby page to find out more about this amazing woman. Contact her to find out more about her ministry. We know your church or women’s ministry outreach will enjoy hearing her story and her music. Thanks Deborah for answering our SGN Scoops’ Fast Five!

More news.

Sheri Easter To Release Book, Hear My Heart: When There Are No Words To Say, September 10, 2011

Written by SGN Scoops on September 7, 2011 – 2:59 pm -

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (September 7, 2011) – GRAMMY® nominee and award-winning female vocalist Sheri Easter (Jeff & Sheri Easter) is set to release Hear My Heart: When There Are No Words To Say, a collection of her writings over the years, through Xulon Press on September 10, 2011.
As a wife, mother, singer and songwriter, Easter has always been one to chronicle her life with pen and paper, capturing significant moments both good and bad. While fighting a now victorious battle with breast cancer over the past few years, her journaling became even more precious to her as well as therapeutic. Currently celebrating 25 years of marriage and a life full of triumphs and tragedies, Easter decided it was time to share some of her life experiences and lessons through this intimate release.
“Sometimes in life, words seem superficial, shallow and empty” says Easter. “We struggle to put our feelings into sentences that convey an honest representation of the heart. With this book, I’ve opened my heart, shared private journal entries, favorite quotes, blogs and stories to offer inspiration and passion to the reader.”
Hear My Heart: When There Are No Words to Say will be available at digital retailers, in select bookstores and at all Jeff & Sheri Easter tour dates. Pre-orders are being accepted now, and all books sold through JeffAndSheriEaster.com will be autographed.

NATIONAL QUARTET CONVENTION TEAMS WITH JANET PASCHAL TO HOST 3rd ANNUAL CANCER WALK

Written by SGN Scoops on August 24, 2011 – 9:38 am -

Louisville, KY – The National Quartet Convention will again team with popular singer, songwriter, author and talk show host, Janet Paschal (pictured in attached jpg) to present the 3rd Annual NQC Cancer Walk. For the past two years, the event has been held on Saturday; however, this year, the event will move to Thursday, September 15.  “We have been overwhelmed by the tremendous response we have enjoyed over the past two years;” Paschal explains, “however, many Convention attendees, who have to depart the Convention early, haven’t had the opportunity to participate. For this reason, we felt Thursday would be a great option.”

Paschal, a long-time favorite among Southern Gospel audiences nationwide, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005. The North Carolina native took a year hiatus from touring, while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. Since resuming her travels, she has toured nationally and internationally, sharing her message of hope and triumph. In 2008, she released the literary work, Treasures of the Snow, which chronicles her battle with cancer. In 2009, she launched a weekly radio program, which continues to air on JOY FM’s network of radio stations, and in 2010 she began producing the daily Walking The Good Road radio program, which currently airs on 32 stations covering 17 states, as well as Canada.

The 2011 NQC Cancer Walk, which is being sponsored in part by Chick-fil-A and Sparpie Pens, will begin at the main entrance to Freedom Hall at 8:00am on Thursday, September 15. Various Southern Gospel artists, who have been impacted by the disease, will join Paschal for the event to greet participants and share special words of encouragement prior to the start of the Walk. “We are thrilled that Janet Paschal will once again be leading the Cancer Walk at NQC,” states NQC Executive Vice President, Clarke Beasley. “This is the third year for the event, and it is quickly turning into an NQC tradition.”

A $10.00 registration fee is required for Walk participants. The first 300 registrants will recieve a free 2011 NQC Walk t-shirt. Also, participants who register for the Walk on Tuesday, which is Christmas In September Day at the NQC, will receive Janet’s Dove Award nominated Christmas recording. Participants may pre-register throughout NQC Week in the North Wing Lobby of the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center. On-site registration on Thursday morning at the Walk will begin at 7:00am at the entrance to Freedom Hall. The event is open to NQC attendees, as well as the general public. All proceeds from the Walk will benefit the American Cancer Society.

A complete schedule of events scheduled to take place during the 2011 National Quartet Convention may be obtained online at www.nqconline.com.

Janet Paschal Launches Daily Radio Program

Written by Rhonda on September 23, 2010 – 2:05 pm -

Burlington, NC – Noted singer, songwriter, author and talk show host, Janet Paschal has announced plans to launch a new, daily, two-minute program that will be made available to radio stations throughout the US and Canada. Five years ago, the news that the beloved singer had been diagnosed with breast cancer stunned the Christian music world. Following a year of treatments, Paschal resumed her touring schedule with renewed fervor and passion.

In November, 2008, the gifted writer released her latest literary work, Treasures of the Snow, which chroncles her triumphant battle with cancer. The book is now among the best seller’s list and has brought encouragement to many.

In an effort to provide even more cancer awareness, Paschal teamed with JOY FM’s network of radio stations in the Spring of 2009 to produce a weekly radio program. Walking The Good Road, which airs each Wednesday during the popular Morning Joy Ride, has become a huge success. “When I was journeying through the process of cancer,” Paschal shares, “I found comfort in communicating with others who had faced like challenges. I gleaned from their experiences, and, hopefully, they from mine. With the ever-increasing occurences of cancer among people with whom I worked and met daily, we began to brainstorm for a way to share a message of hope and faith to those who needed it most. In an effort to reach as many ladies and gentlemen as possible, we naturally gravitated toward radio – that wonderfully ubiquitous medium which has been exceedingly gracious to me for more than 30 years.”

On October 4, Paschal takes an even bolder step toward educating, informing and inspiring others with her story and the story of many who have walked through similar struggles, as she launches a daily, two-minute inspirational program for radio. “We will be sharing, daily two-minute segments of interviews with people who know, firsthand, what it means to have ‘cancer’ in their everyday conversation,” Paschal explains. “We will speak with Christian artists, pastors and housewives. We will interview caregivers, sons, daughters and parents of patients. We will meet oncology physicians, nurses, radiologists, exploring the entire gamut of the treatment process. Listeners will hear it first person, from those who are on the journey and who have graciously allowed us to walk alongside them for a short while.”

According to Paschal, five episodes of the daily format of Walking The Good Road will be offered to stations each week; however, those stations have the opportunity to air each episode as frequently as they like. “It is my hope,” Paschal shares, “through this program and the wonderful medium of radio, that we will be privileged to hold up the hands of those who are battling this disease. It is my hope that listeners will be encouraged, inspired and informed, and they will be victorious as they walk their own good road.”

While the concept was originally inspired by Paschal’s battle with cancer, individuals who have served as consultants for the program admit that the messages conveyed by Paschal and her guests offer encouragement and words of wisdom for individuals dealing with  any type of struggle. This possibility thrills Paschal. “We all take different roads home. Each of us is heading for the same destination, but we face our own variety of twists and turns and narrow places, as well as a few stretches that are all downhill. My prayer is that each listener will be able to identify in some way with some of the curves and crosswalks during these conversations.”

Complete information regarding the brand new daily Walking The Good Road program may be obtained on-line at www.janetpaschal.com. Stations wishing to air the program may visit the site and click on the the Radio Broadcasters icon at the top of the home page.
