ClearVision Breakfast, Join Us?

Written by scoopsnews on March 22, 2019 – 7:33 am -

This year marks the 3rd annual Breakfast with Clearvision. This event is always a highlight of Southern Gospel Weekend for us. It is in our hometown of Oxford, Al and allows us to be with some of our best friends and ministry supporters who normally do not have a chance to be in service with us.  We get to enjoy a great breakfast, we get to sing to a very supportive audience, and we always close with a testimony or devotional.

This year we will have 2 first-time attendees at the breakfast. Chris Fugatt, our baritone, will make his first appearance as a member of Clearvision. He came on board shortly after last years’ convention. We are excited for everyone to hear the new sound with Chris. Also, our speaker will be Rev. Donald DeLee. He is the pastor at West End Baptist Church in Alexander City, AL. He comes from a rich heritage in southern gospel music having traveled with his family group for many years before coming off the road to pastor. He has not attended SGW before and we are so excited that he will be bringing the Word after the singing.
Beside our annual anniversary singing, the breakfast is our most anticipated and exciting event of the year. We hope you will join us on March 23rd at 8am for this event; you will not want to miss it. A special thank you goes to Rob and Vonda and all the SGW staff and volunteers for allowing us to host this every year. Thank you for trusting our ministry with this event.
Clearvision Quartet is an all-male southern gospel quartet based in Oxford, AL. Group members are Jay Peoples, Steve Dover, Tony Sheppard and Chris Fugatt. Eagle’s Wings Return To Southern Gospel Weekend

Written by scoopsnews on March 16, 2019 – 2:23 pm -

Eagle’s Wings is a Bluegrass/Southern Gospel band that hails from Jasper, Ala. The group consists of members Darryle Wilson, Debbi Wilson, Matt Wilson, Kevin Chambers and Jacob Patterson.

Darryle and Debbi performed secular music before they became Christians and then formed the group, Family Circle. In 2008, this band began performing under the name of Eagle’s Wings. If you like Bluegrass family harmony, you will love Eagle’s Wings.

Darryle is the patriarch of the group and has always been involved in music. He grew up in the church where his dad was a deacon and his mother was the head of the women’s group. He was involved in music in high school and college and was faithful to the church until he went to college and got out of the habit of going to church.

Darryl married Debbi Busby, and they got involved in Country Music until 1979. After many visits from a member of the local church where they lived, he rededicated his life to the Lord, and about a month later, Debbi did the same. That is when they began attending church and started singing Gospel Music.
Come hear this awesome group at SGW 2019!

Southern Gospel Weekend Welcomes “The Carter Family Band”

Written by scoopsnews on March 7, 2019 – 12:02 pm -

Bryan Carter, former lead guitarist for Jeff an Sheri Easter, and his wife & children, have formed a Southern Gospel band with a touch of bluegrass. “We are so excited to have this talented family be a part of Southern Gospel Weekend, states Vonda Easley Armstrong, one of the board members for the event.”

Southern  Gospel Weekend  will take place March 21-23rd at  the Civic Center in Oxford, Alabama. The event will feature 25 other groups like New Ground, Josh and Ashley Franks, The Diplomats, The Williamsons, the Connells, ClearVision, Hope’s Journey and many more.

Call today to reserve a VIP Ticket or to inquire about the event. The number is 256-310-7892.

We asked The Carter Family a few questions and here’s what they had to say.

1. Bryan, many people know you from your time with Jeff and Sheri Easter, give us an update of what you’ve been doing since your time on the “Gaither videos?”

Working with Jeff and Sheri was such a great opportunity for me. They taught me so much during those five years. Also, if it wasn’t for Jeff giving me a call, I never would have met my lovely wife, Kristi. That was a good day for me. 🙂 Since then, raising seven kids has kept us incredibly busy, to say the least. But, it has been a rewarding journey that I wouldn’t take anything for. Musically, I’ve been working as a studio musician. For years, I owned and operated my own recording studio, but now I am excited to be able to focus more on our own music-writing songs with Kristi and several friends of ours, practicing music together as a family, and also teaching my kids how to play their individual instruments. Traveling around, singing at different churches, and meeting new people with my family has been an awesome experience!

2. Bryan, tell us a little bit about your family including the roles of each in the group.

Okay, here we go! 🙂 Grace, 17, is our oldest. She plays acoustic guitar and for now primarily sings harmony, but she does do some lead singing as well. Isaac, 16, has been playing bass guitar for us for a couple of years. John, 14, started playing drums at around ten years old. He was a big inspiration for us starting the band because he picked up on them so quickly. Lilly and Ella, 12, are our twins. Kristi thought it would be neat to have twin girls playing twin fiddles. Everybody loves fiddles. They also sing harmony, and Lilly plays keyboard on some songs. Owen, 3, does not play an instrument yet, but does dance on the stage sometimes and entertains everybody. Kara is one, and if you watch her real close, you will catch her bobbing her head to the music while strapped on Kristi’s back on stage. Kristi sings and plays mandolin, and I sing and play guitar. I’m very proud of all my kids. They’ve worked very hard and have accomplished so much in a short amount of time.

3. When the group has some free time from singing, what is your favorite family activity?

We love eating snacks and watching a movie or playing Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune together on the Xbox. Living in Alabama near Cheaha mountain, there are a lot of hiking trails nearby. We love it and try to take advantage of it when we have time! There’s nothing like packing a snack and having a picnic on the big rocks near the waterfalls. Although we aren’t what you would call outdoorsmen, we love to take a family day and drive to Bass Pro Shops. We just like the big store, the fish tank, and riding in the glass elevator…and we always buy salt water taffy.

4. Kristi, tell us how you and Bryan met.

I started babysitting Madison and Morgan for Jeff & Sheri Easter a few months after Bryan got the job as their guitar player. I got on the bus in Lincolnton, GA for my first weekend with them and I went to bed pretty early. Later, they picked him up in Alabama. The next morning, I was sitting up front when Bryan walked in. He jokes that we have no idea where we met…we just know it was on the bus somewhere in America!

5. How can we purchase your product or book you for a concert?

You can go to our website www.thecarterfamilyband.com, message us on Facebook, or call/text us at 256-252-5917.
See you soon at Southern Gospel  Weekend!

Southern Gospel Weekend Welcomes Jessica Horton

Written by scoopsnews on February 25, 2019 – 4:16 am -

Jessica Horton and Vonda Easley

Jessica Horton and Vonda Easley

Jessica Horton

Singer / Songwriter

Jessica Horton is a singer/songwriter from Columbus, MS. She was raised in classic country and gospel, and the soul and sound of these classics often find their way into her music. Her songs feature the acoustic guitar, dobro, mandolin, and other roots instruments. On stage, Jessica brings a live aspect to her show by playing guitar and including singable old-time hymns and gospel songs. Off- stage, Jessica spends a lot of time with her husband, David and her church family. She serves as worship leader and youth director at Shaeffer’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Columbus, MS.

Jessica is originally from Eupora, MS, and she grew up singing classic country with her “Pop” Jess, starting when she was only 3 years old. He taught her guitar and piano, and they traveled to different schoolhouses, opry houses, festivals, and election events to perform. When he passed away, Jessica focused more on her classical studies as a music major at Mississippi University for Women, where she earned a degree as a soprano vocalist and music educator.

In 2018, with the encouragement of her husband, Jessica reached out to Dennis and Leslie McKay with M.A.C. Records in Columbus, MS. Shortly after, Jessica signed with the label and began working on her first single “Love Wins.” She released her second single, “Pictures” in November 2018, and it has already charted in Christian Country and gospel charts. These two songs will be on her project “Both Feet In,” due to be released in March 2019. You can find her singles on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Play and any other online music outlets.

Vonda Easley Armstrong, one of the  board members for the event, recently invited Jessica to be a guest on The a Strictly Southern Show in Heflin, Alabama at WPIL.  Vonda said, “Jessica is an uncommon talent. By that I mean, it’s not everyday you find an artist that no matter the style , she can sing it and sing  it well.  She radiates with Christ’s love when she sings and I can’t wait for the folks to meet her at Southern Gospel Weekend.”
