The Blackwood Brothers Honored In Memphis

Hendersonville, TN – During the 2018 Memphis Quartet Show, the world-famous Blackwood Brothers Quartet was awarded the honor of its own brass note along the Beale Street Brass Note Walk Of Fame. The Walk Of Fame honors a wide array of talented artists, musicians, composers and promoters who have contributed to Memphis music and Beale Street throughout the years. The Blackwood Brothers Quartet joins the ranks of artists such as Elvis, B.B. King, Johnny Cash, and over 100 others with the distinction.

“The Blackwood Brothers Quartet is one of the most iconic names in Gospel Music,” comments Scott Godsey of Daywind Records. “They have been in the forefront of the music industry for decades. It’s great to see them honored in Memphis with the brass note and we are excited for everyone to see the Blackwood Brothers Quartet name as they walk through Memphis!”

The Blackwood Brothers Welcome Jonathan Mattingly

The Blackwood Brothers Welcome Jonathan Mattingly

The Blackwood Brothers Welcome Jonathan Mattingly

Hendersonville, TN (August 30th, 2017) – The Blackwood Brothers Quartet and Daywind Records are pleased to announce the addition of Jonathan Mattingly to the Blackwood Brothers Quartet.

Jonathon, Sarah, and Asher Mattingly join the Blackwood Brothers

Jonathan, Sarah, and Asher Mattingly join the Blackwood Brothers

Jonathan’s family has traveled in music ministry for many years and reside in Moody, Missouri. After much prayer, Jonathan and his wife, Sarah, felt that the Lord was directing them to leave the family group in which he had grown up and move to Nashville. He had no promise of employment, and Sarah was pregnant with their first child. But they obeyed what they discerned as God’s direction, and moved the first week of April of this year.

Jonathan was unaware, but that week, the Blackwood Brothers were holding auditions for a new lead singer. The group happened to hear about Jonathan from good friends and fellow Daywind artists, Riley Harrison Clark and Gary Casto of Tribute Quartet. Within a day of Jonathan and Sarah arriving in Nashville, the Blackwood Brothers contacted him and scheduled an audition the next day. And the rest, as they say, is history.

But God had more than just Jonathan joining the Blackwood Brothers in mind when He directed them to Nashville. Sarah was about six months pregnant with their first child, and the baby developed complications in utero. The doctors advised the expectant parents that they would need to take their baby at 28 weeks, and that he might not make it if they didn’t.

Many people know that Nashville is not just Music City, but Medical City as well. The doctors and hospitals here were uniquely suited to handle a situation of this nature. Little Asher was born at 28 weeks weighing 1 lb. 14 oz. Now at two months old, his weight is up to five pounds and the doctors are optimistic that he will continue to grow and thrive.

Daywind Records is home to an award-winning roster of artists, including Mark Lowry, Legacy Five, Adam Crabb, Browders, Jim Brady Trio, Greater Vision, Joseph Habedank, The Hoppers, Karen Peck & New River, Michael English, Bowling Family, Tribute, Nelons, Brian Free & Assurance, Blackwood Brothers Quartet and Wilburn & Wilburn. The Dove Creek Café: Three Weeks Becomes Six Years and Counting

Bob Wills

Bob Wills

By Vivian Belknap

Roanoke, Texas, a quaint town in North Central Texas has been proclaimed by the Texas House of

Billy Blackwood And The Blackwood Brothers

Representatives as The Unique Dining Capital of Texas. There are several restaurants in the newly revamped downtown area of Roanoke, but in my opinion the most unique is Dove Creek Café. The food is just good “down home” cooking, and the atmosphere is just as if you are enjoying breakfast, lunch or dinner in your own home surrounded by friends and family.

In February 2009, Bob Wills, who lives in the Roanoke, Texas area, was enjoying

The Telestials

The Telestials

breakfast at Dove Creek Café when a staff member approached him. The owner of Dove Creek had been told about Bob Wills and his family of great Southern Gospel singers. Dove Creek had been featuring Country music on Friday nights hoping to draw more people into the café, but with not as much success as they had hoped. So the owner asked Wills if he would be willing to bring Southern Gospel music to Dove Creek with the hope of bringing in new customers.

The Galileans

The Galileans

Bob Wills agreed to try for three weeks, and if successful he would continue. So that first night, The Wills Family, The Splawn Family and Homer Belcher, local talent, were featured, and the café was full. He continued the next two weeks with great local talent and again was successful. After about a year as national artists learned about Bob Wills and Dove Creek Café, he started getting calls asking if they could be featured artists as they

come through our area. And of course the answer was yes and still is! We in the Ft. Worth/Dallas area are so blessed to have wonderful local talent like Bob Wills had and we still have a wealth of diversified talent to share with our area.

National artists who have performed at Dove Creek Café are legends in Southern, Country and Blue Grass Gospel. This is a list of only some who have graced the stage of Dove Creek Café in Roanoke, Texas with their talents and ministry: The Melody Boys, Phil Cross, Joel and LaBreeska Hemphill, Sharron Kay King, Greg McDougal, Shannon Bunch, The Telestials, The Texans, Barbara Fairchild and her husband, Roy Morris, The South Men, The Song Fellows, Rick Strickland, The Chuck Wagon Gang, Jerry Bennett, Paul’s Journey, Billy Blackwood and The Blackwood Brothers, Beyond The Ashes, Chuck Day, and Reynold Rutledge.

The Wills Family

The Wills Family

Some may ask, “Who is Bob Wills?” Bob Wills is a member of The Wills Family who has their roots in Texas, and he was named after the legendary singer who made Western Swing popular in the 1940’s. Bob Wills’ father was first cousin with the legendary Bob Wills. However, Bob Will’s father chose to follow Gospel music instead of secular music, and started a group with his children.

The Texans

In the early ‘50’s Bob and his siblings, Bill, Calvin, Lou, Betty and Joe formed The Singing Wills Family and enjoyed many successful years touring together. In 1958, Bob Wills was asked to join the group known as The Inspirationals. Beginning in the early ‘60’s and ‘70’s, Bob led the group as they toured the nation. Bob and the group were featured on the nationally syndicated TV series, Wills Family Inspirational Time. The family

legacy continues with his daughter, Angel, enjoying ministering as a soloist, as well as his son, Bobby Lee, his wife Annette, and their two children, Landry and Bethany.

Bob’s sister Lou Wills Hildreth is also one of the Gospel music elite and her story can be read in the SGN Scoops digital magazine every month.

Would you like to be part of the elite who have been at Dove Creek Café? Please contact Bob Wills at: bobwillsfamily@yahoo.com, or feel free to call Bob Wills at: 817.535.0136.

Debut Project From The New Gospel Singing Caravan In Stores This Week

Written by SGN Scoops Staff on May 4, 2011 – 11:56 am -

Hendersonville, TN  – The Blackwood Brothers, LeFevre Quartet and Chuck Wagon Gang have teamed up with Daywind Records to present a brand new recording entitled, Keeps On Rolling Along.  This unique project, produced by David Staton and Mike LeFevre, provides a new generation of Gospel music lovers with a modern version of the Gospel Singing Caravan television show and tour of the 1960s.  The album features classics such as “I’m Too Near Home” and “How Great Thou Art” in addition to several new songs, including the first radio single, “I Always Have A Song To Sing.”  To promote the release of this collaborative project, the three groups will also be touring together for select dates this year.

“When we were putting this project together, we wanted the music and the arrangements to be very true to the original Gospel Singing Caravan of the 1960s.  That is why we chose many songs from that era and specifically songs that were performed by the original Caravan,” shares David Staton and Mike LeFevre.  “We also chose to put a couple of new songs on the CD that were penned from writers Dianne Wilkinson and Jerry Kelso.  Both of them have an amazing ability to write music that is true to that era both musically and lyrically, so even the new songs flow well with the classic material.”

Keeps On Rolling Along is available at Christian retail stores across the country and digitally at iTunes and other outlets.  Bulk purchasing for gift and ministry purposes is available by calling 1-800-635-9581.

Daywind Records is based in Hendersonville, TN and is distributed worldwide through New Day Christian Distributors.  Daywind is home to such great artists as Brian Free & Assurance, Sisters and the Booth Brothers, among others.
