Karen Peck Gooch

Today we celebrate the birthday of one of Gospel music’s favorite sopranos, Karen Peck Gooch.  Karen has been singing professionally for about 30 years,  since her days with the LeFevres. Now with New River, more of her family is involved and she is making even more friends and fans.

Karen’s voice and look is timeless, although her award-winning music is always ahead of its time.

The Gooch family has had a challenging time as they faced Rickey’s recent battle with cancer. The Gospel music family came together in prayer and we are so thankful that Rickey is experiencing the healing hand of God.

Karen Peck and Rickey Gooch

Earlier today, Karen Peck Gooch sent out her email newsletter with a praise report regarding Rickey Gooch’s cancer. Karen writes:

Hey Friends! 🙂
WE HAVE GREAT NEWS! Over the past few weeks Rickey has been experiencing post radiation symptoms. After three trips to Emory in Atlanta and going through a day of pre-op getting ready for a biopsy next week, the doctors checked the sore in his throat one more time and came to the conclusion that it looked much better than the week before. Therefore he does not need the biopsy!! We are so grateful to the Lord for answered prayers. Thanks to all of you for your continued prayers! Our new song ‘I Am Blessed’ is definitely our theme for 2016!!We are still very excited about going to the Grammys next month. We have been shopping like crazy!! LOL

So much is going on and I wanted to stop and remind you all about the Abraham Productions events that are happening this year. Check out the brochures and join us!!

Be sure to check our schedule and come see us. 🙂

Love y’all, Karen

Special SGN Scoops’ Fast Five for Friday: Karen Peck and New River

Written by Staff on August 14, 2015 – 11:49 am -

Karen Peck and New River

Karen Peck and New River

Today we present SGN Scoops’ Fast Five for Friday, a special edition of our feature that you usually see on Monday! But we thought you needed a smile for your Friday as well, so here you have it:

Karen Peck and New River

Karen Peck and New River

SGN Scoops talked to Karen Peck and New River during the last weekend that Jeff Hawes was with the group. We have included his answers here as well for this Fast Five. Each artist was asked five questions, and they answered with the first word that came to mind, in true game-show fashion. Unfortunately there were no prizes, but we consider each member of Karen Peck and New River a winner!

SGN Scoops: What is your favorite perfume/cologne?

Susan Peck Jackson: Mademoiselle by Chanel

Kari Gooch: Daisy by Marc Jacobs

Jeff Hawes: YSL [Yves Saint Laurent]

Karen Peck Gooch: Jimmie Choo

Karen and Susan Peck

Karen and Susan Peck

SGN Scoops: What was the last book you read?

Susan Peck Jackson: Hear My Heart [by Sheri Easter]

Kari Gooch: The Vacationers [by Emma Straub]

Jeff Hawes: The Bible. That’s a given… but it really was. Before that: To Kill A Mockingbird. I’ve read that many, many times.

Karen Peck Gooch: God’s Generals. I read a lot of books at the same time. But my favorite book is God’s Generals [by Roberts Liardon]

SGN Scoops: What is your favorite thing about Canada? [Editor’s note: The concert took place in Coburg, Ontario, Canada.]

Susan Peck Jackson: I love Canada! Everything is great. We were talking about all the things we like about Canada: Maple Syrup, the Hockey Team [We hope she means the Toronto Maple Leafs!], and the Baseball Team [We are sure she means the Toronto Blue Jays!]…we were talking about that, but really, we love the way y’all talk. Eh?

Kari Gooch: The accents.

Jeff Hawes: The people; they are so sweet, genuinely sweet.

Karen Peck Gooch: The people. Absolutely.

SGN Scoops: What is your favorite hymn?

Susan Peck Jackson: The Old Rugged Cross.

Kari Gooch: Amazing Grace.

Jeff Hawes: It Is Well With My Soul.

Karen Peck Gooch: Amazing Grace.

SGN Scoops: What is your favorite vacation destination?

Susan Peck Jackson: Destin, Florida. That’s where we go every year because it’s not that far from where we live. Every summer we go to the beach and stay for a week. It’s a good family time to get together.

Kari Gooch: Destin, Florida.

Jeff Hawes: The Smoky Mountains, Tennessee, Pigeon Forge. I love it and it’s not that far from home.

Karen Peck Gooch: Destin, Florida. I like Destin because I love the beach. The beach is white sand, it’s clean and it’s family-oriented. We like the water, we like the food; it’s just someplace we always go and it’s also the kids’ favorite place.

SGN Scoops thanks Karen Peck and New River for being so gracious to chat with us after the concert at Lakeshore Pentecostal Camp in Coburg, Ontario. We urge our readers to continue to pray for Rickey Gooch so he can regain his health. A special greeting goes out to Matthew Gooch who seemed to vanish as soon as a voice recorder was brought out!

Karen Peck and New River have been nominated for several Diamond Awards in 2015. We invite you to vote for these artists today! Make your plans to visit Creekside Gospel Music Convention for the Diamond Awards ceremony on November 3, 2015.

Return often to SGN Scoops mainpage for more SGN Scoops’ Fast Five.

Karen Peck and New River in Concert: Final Weekend with Jeff Hawes

Written by Staff on August 6, 2015 – 10:04 am -

first

Karen Peck and New River

On August 1, 2015, we were privileged to be at a concert featuring Karen Peck and New River in Coburg, Ontario. The site was the Lakeshore Pentecostal Camp, a beautiful campsite on the shores of Lake Ontario. Inside the Tabernacle was seating for about 1000 people on old-fashioned wooden pews and we were happy to see modern fans and feel the air-conditioning on that exceptionally warm evening.

Karen Peck and New River stepped onto the stage to a very appreciative crowd

welcoming the artists for the first time to that venue. Many had heard this mixed group previously and fully enjoyed the first few renditions of top songs from the well-awarded history of KPNR.

Karen Peck Gooch, Susan Peck Jackson and Jeff Hawes were joined onstage in the first half by Karen’s daughter Kari on vocals and Matthew on guitar. Karen’s husband Rickey

was running sound and we were happy to note that he is on his way to better health after dealing with cancer for much of the year.

Some notable musical moments included “On The Banks Of The Promised Land,” where the guitar that Matthew was playing so proficiently turned into the sound of a mandolin, and then “Hallelujah For The Cross,” a song off of their newest release, Pray Now, which featured Jeff Hawes on the lead. This vocalist will definitely be missed!

I always enjoy the clear tones of Susan on her alto leads, especially the tune “Sustaining Grace,” which was another chart-topper for KPNR. Karen then had Rickey give his testimony of coming through his health battle, and we were all exhorted to “Pray Now,” in every situation, for God does hear and answer prayer!

During the intermission we were blessed by the instrumental sounds of Matthew on steel guitar and Jeff Hawes on piano. Jeff is a terrific pianist as well as vocalist and Matthew is working his way to proficiency on a variety of stringed instruments. They made a great team.

The second half was as wonderful as the first, and I don’t say that lightly. Karen has a way of edit 4drawing in her listeners and then taking them with her as her voice soars ever higher, bringing a special sense of worship and praise to God. After a full concert, Karen stepped down off the stage to present a song completely alone. Her rendition of “My God Will Always Be Enough,” was simply incredible. Her clarity, tone and strength in her upper register after a long evening were amazing and gave proof to why she is one of the top vocalists in Gospel music.

After a sensitive and encouraging prayer time, the artists ended the evening appropriately with the song, “Finish Well.” While the hall was filled with all ages, there was a predominance of older listeners who sometimes feel that their best years are behind them. What an encouragement and exhortation to everyone there, that while we still have breath we have a work to do for the Lord, and we all need to “Finish Well.”

The Karen Peck and New River concert at Lakeshore Pentecostal turned out to be the penultimate performance of Jeff Hawes with the group, and we were thrilled to have had that experience. We wish Jeff all the best in his new endeavors within the educational system, but we hope he knows how much the Southern Gospel world will miss his vocals and sweet spirit. Our prayers are with KPNR as they fill Jeff’s edit 5position with another Godly vocalist.

No doubt Karen Peck and New River will persist in expanding their boundaries and pushing the envelope, as they continue on their journey of excellence in Gospel music.

Special note to all you fashionistas out there: take special note of the ladies’ shoes and fashions onstage. KPNR always is in style with colors that flatter and never look immodest. Love that about these artists!

An Open Letter From Karen Peck Gooch

Written by Staff on February 19, 2015 – 1:22 pm -

Rickey and Karen Peck Gooch

Rickey and Karen Peck Gooch

February 19, 2015
Hey Friends:)

My husband, Rickey Gooch, is the strongest and hardest working man I know. It is an honor and a blessing to be his wife.
A few weeks ago, Rickey discovered a knot in his neck. After consultation with his doctor Rickey was prescribed two rounds of antibiotics. After the knot did not go away, additional testing was ordered.

After a neck scan, two biopsies, a CT scan and a PET scan, Rickey was diagnosed with squamous carcinoma, a type of cancer. Thank the Lord, the cancer is confined to Rickey’s left tonsil area and has not spread anywhere else within his body. As a result of this diagnosis, Rickey will begin a series of treatments in the coming days. The doctors feel very confident that the treatments will be successful and this will soon be behind us.

During the weeks Rickey and I have been dealing with this, the Lord has shown us such mercy and grace. He has reminded us of His sovereignty and even when we were at our lowest, we could feel His loving arms wrapping around us and covering us with peace that surpasses all understanding. Truthfully, we would not have made it this far without the Lord. Even though we are devastated, we realize the Lord is strengthening us more every day as we move forward.

Because of this situation Rickey and I stayed home for a few days to attend doctors appointments. We are so proud of our group, though, as they continued to travel to honor our commitments. Rickey and I want to offer our sincere appreciation to Katy Peach for filling in for me and doing an amazing job. Also, we give special thanks to Susan, Jeff, Matthew, Kari, Tripp King, and Danny Jones for stepping up and doing what needed to be done. Audiences were blessed and we were thrilled to learn that some even accepted Jesus as their Savior. Praise the Lord!

Rickey and I will be back on the road this weekend. We want to thank everyone for the love you have shown our family. We love y’all dearly. Please continue to pray for Rickey. We know that God will make this trial a blessing.

In Depth With…Karen Peck Gooch

Karen Peck and New River

SGM Radio was thrilled to chat with the delightful Karen Peck Gooch, during our 2013 “In Depth With” series. We are excited to learn that Karen Peck and New River were the recipients of a Dove Award last night for their hit, “Revival.”

Karen Peck is well known to Gospel Music fans, having begun her singing career in 1981 with The LeFevres who then became known as The Nelons. Ten years later, Karen Peck and New River (KPNR) was born as Karen fulfilled a dream to travel full-time with her sister Susan. Today, Karen’s beautiful, soaring soprano voice is still joined by Susan’s melting alto vocals. The Peck sisters are joined by Jeff Hawes, who adds a rich lead/tenor that makes Karen Peck and New River an audience and radio favorite.

When asked to tell us something about each of the group’s members, Peck says: “Susan is loyal. Jeff is committed. Rickey is stable. Matthew is witty and smart. Kari is witty and organized. Trip is funny but is a great bus driver.” About herself, Karen says she has a “genuine love for people”. This love shows through Peck and her group, both onstage and off. The KPNR team has melded together to become a cohesive unit that continually strives to give their best. The trio has seen the fruit of their labors with several acknowledgments and nominations in Christian music awards.

Karen Peck and New River are multi-award winners with The Singing News and the Gospel Music Association’s Dove Awards. They have been nominated for Grammy Awards three times and many of their songs have reached number-one status on the Singing News radio charts.

Reach Out is the latest project for Karen Peck and New River, and the current single, “Sustaining Grace” is receiving a good response. Reach Out received two Dove Awards and has garnered at least two number-one songs at the time of this publication. The trio is in the process of recording a new album to be released this year. Karen also recently released her solo CD entitled How You Walk The Miles, to the delight of her many fans. Her lovely soprano is instantly recognizable and her passionate delivery makes each song an instant favorite.

With over 30 years in Gospel music, Karen Peck has sung hundreds of songs. However, “Four Days Late” is still her favorite song to perform because, she says, everyone can relate to the song. The Singing News proved the popularity of the song with the choice of “Four Days Late” as 2010’s Song Of The Decade.

Karen Peck seems to have accomplished so much in her illustrious career, but in the last couple of years she experienced something new: performing in the film “Joyful Noise” starring Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton. “I had a wonderful experience filming this movie!” says Peck. “It was one highlight of my career. I walked away feeling very proud to be a Christian and meeting actors that proclaim His name! Right now, no plans have been made to do another movie but I’m waiting next to the phone!”

Karen Peck is not only an accomplished vocal artist and movie actress, but also has been honing her talent as a speaker. “I’ve done several ladies’ conferences,” says Peck.  “We do an annual conference in October at North Highland Baptist Church in Warrior, Alabama.” Peck speaks to the hearts’ of women through her experience as an artist, wife and mother. Karen and Ricky Gooch have two children, Matthew and Kari. When asked how she keeps her family strong, Karen replies, “By making sure that we live our lives to the best of our abilities for Jesus Christ.”

As a communicator and minister, Peck knows she needs to keep her own relationship with the Lord strong and vibrant. She does this through taking in all she can from Christian speakers and authors. “I love to read Christian books,” says Peck. “I also listen to Pastor Jentzen Franklin, Joyce Meyer, Beth Moore, T.D. Jakes and Johnny Hunt.” Bible study is also important and she says that one passage that has spoken to her personally is 1Corintians 10:13, which says, “God is faithful.”

Relying on God’s faithfulness in a new year is important for all of us, as we look ahead to what we hope to achieve. Peck says she has several personal goals for 2013. “ This year, more than ever, I want to draw closer to God,” says Peck. “To read His Word, and listen to His voice.”

Finally, we asked Karen what twitter-sized comment she would like our readers to remember about her. Karen laughs and replies, “I’m really not a blonde, I just act like one!”

Karen Peck and New River Score Another #1

Written by SGN Scoops on November 22, 2013 – 1:49 pm -

Dahlonega, GA (November 22, 2013) Multi-award winning group Karen Peck and New River have once again come upkpnrpromo with a #1 song. Titled ‘Revival‘ this song resonates with audiences and radio listeners everywhere. This has resulted in their 4thnumber 1 song across the board on all the major Southern Gospel music charts that was either written or co-written by Karen. The song hit #1 for the month of January in the Singing News chart and has been in the top spot on AbsolutelyGospel.com charts for 4 straight weeks.

The song was co-written by Karen Peck Gooch, Kenna Turner West and Don Poythress at Daywind Publishing. It was recorded at Daywind Records by the group on their latest project with the same title as the single ‘Revival’. Karen Peck and New River knew radio was playing this song, because something special was happening when they sang this song at concerts. Fans were singing along, hands were being raised and people were being blessed.

“We are so passionate about ‘Revival’. We are praying that the Lord will break out revival all over this world. More than ever we need Him.” Karen went on to say “Thanks to our precious DJ’s for believing in the song and for partnering with us in spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ.”
