Beyond the Song: Tribute Quartet sings The HealerBeyond the Song with Tribute Quartet

By Jantina Baksteen

I got in contact with Gary Casto of Tribute for this interview, to talk about the album, “Living the Story,” and the single, “The Healer Hasn’t Lost His Touch.” Tribute Quartet members are: Gary Casto, Josh SIngletary, Anthony Davis, and Gus Gaches.

Jantina Baksteen: Please share how the dynamic group, Tribute, was born!

Gary Casto: Josh and I traveled with a family group by the name of, “The Wilburns,” and when they retired in 2005, they “passed the mantel” to us. We officially started Tribute on Dec. 31, 2006.

JB: You recently went through a line up change as Riley Harrison Clark stepped down to pursue a solo career. Gus Gaches then stepped into the tenor position. How did this transition go?

GC: With Gus’s tenure on the platform and studio producing experience, it made the transition very easy.

JB: Your new project, “Living the Story,” has been released. Tell us about this album. What is the story Tribute lives?

GC: “Living the Stories:” We are truly excited about this new project. This 10 song project speaks to the very lives that we all live and the part it plays in God’s bigger story. Tribute has had ups and downs, and it has all been to the furthering of God’s story of sovereignty, grace, and the pursuing and growth of His kingdom. Each night we have the opportunity to hear the stories of people and where God has them at those points in life. It really makes you stop and realize (the size) of a true story that’s being created every second of every day.

Tribute QuartetJB: The song, “The Healer Hasn’t Lost His Touch,” is on the charts now. Please tell us the story of this song. What does the message mean to you personally?

GC: This was the very first song we chose and put on hold for the new album two years prior. This song is a reminder that no matter what you are facing, whether it’s physical, emotional, financial or spiritual, The Healer, Jesus Christ, knows exactly where you are at, and he hasn’t lost his healing touch.

JB: What message do you give to the crowds who attend your concerts every night?

GCOur message each night is to let our listening audience know that we serve a real, living Savior that loves them greatly.

JB: What do you do when the concert is over and you’re back on the bus?

GC: (We are) usually looking for food. (Laughs). We do try to recall and discuss how we felt the concert went and how to improve for the next one.

JB: Who is the loudest of all of you?

GC: That would would be a toss up between a couple of them. Probably best if I move on from this question. (Laughs)

JB: What’s your favorite place to eat?

GC: I have so many favorites, but if I had to narrow them down, I would say Houston’s and Morton’s.

JB: What’s ahead for Tribute in the near future? Do you have any special  events, or are you traveling outside of the States?

GC: We just finished a new concept video of a song from our new project that will be releasing soon. We are working on another European tour and possibly another trip to Africa.

JB: What was your latest blooper that happened on or off stage?

GC: We were a couple minutes from going on stage, and the pastor sent someone to get me because he needed to speak with me about the evening program. When we finished talking, I started running because I heard the music of our first song playing. When I got to stage door, it was locked. To make a long story short, I tried several other doors and finally found one that wasn’t locked and ran onto the stage just as we stared singing first word of song. Needless to say, I was out of breath and could barely sing any notes – everyone was laughing!

JB: Where can we find you on the web?

Tribute Quartet Hits No. 1 With “The Healer Hasn’t Lost His Touch.”

Tribute Continues Its Successful Run of Hit Singles and Award Recognition

Tribute Quartet Hits #1 With “The Healer Hasn’t Lost His Touch.”

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (APRIL 3, 2020) — Daywind Records is celebrating the incredible success of Tribute Quartet.

Tribute’s first radio single from the quartet’s latest album Living The Stories quickly jumped to the top of the Southern Gospel radio charts. “The Healer Hasn’t Lost His Touch” featuring the group’s new tenor singer, Gus Gaches, earned the #1 spot on the Singing News National Radio Chart for May, as well as the #1 spot on the Christian Music Weekly chart for the week of March 16, and a top 5 spot on the SGNScoops chart for the month of April.

Recently, Tribute received an unprecedented nine 2020 Singing News Fan Award nominations, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for Living the Stories, and Song of the Year for “The Healer Hasn’t Lost His Touch.”

Tribute’s recent success comes on the heels of its two #1 songs (“Never Forsaken” and “God of the Storms”) and three top 5 songs (“When the Prodigal Comes Home,” “Meeting in the Middle of the Air,” and “Everybody Come See Jesus”) from their last album Here for You on Daywind Records.

Here’s what radio is saying about “The Healer Hasn’t Lost His Touch” written by Jason Cox, Joseph Habedank, and Tony Wood:

Tribute Quartet Hits #1 With “The Healer Hasn’t Lost His Touch.” “In the midst of uncertainty, fear, and hopelessness, ‘The Healer Hasn’t Lost His Touch,’ reminds us that God is still in control. This song, by Tribute Quartet, has the perfect message for our current situation. The song gives us hope and encouragement and is a gentle reminder that no matter what we’re facing, the Great Physician, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, still restores, redeems and heals His children!” Brian Crowe – LifeFM

“This song arrived at a much needed time of comfort and peace for our nation and the world. It reminds us to always TRUST even when we can’t see.  I like the line in the song that says ‘I’ve been a desperate soul a voice crying out to be made whole and I’ve felt the empty ache so helpless in that lonely place, but I’ve found Him faithful and I’ve seen Him move.  This is my story, and I’m living proof.’ The song has my name and yours written all over it.”  Otis Dyson – KGHY Radio 88.5 FM

“In times like these we can only do what we can do…and trust in God for the rest. It’s also a good time to be reminded ‘The Healer Hasn’t Lost His Touch.’” Dan Bell – WJBZ FM

“What a perfect song for the days in which we live. We are wrapped up into trying to solve things on our own and most times fail. It reminds us that without the hands of THE Healer on the case, we are left without hope.” Glen Harlow – WZAP FM

“Amazing song that has touched so many of my listeners!” John Graves – WTGF FM

With all this success, Tribute remains ever humble. Group leader, Gary Casto, shared, “We are humbled and honored by the reception of ‘The Healer Hasn’t Lost His Touch.’ We believed in the message of this song from the first time we heard it. A big thank you to radio for playing it. I would like to publicly acknowledge the Guardians for reaching out with congratulations to us. There is not a finer, classier group of men on the road today. I would also like to thank Singing News and other publications for these great honors. We are blessed.”

Tribute Quartet: Uniting the past, present and future of Southern gospel

Written by Staff on June 12, 2019 – 11:37 am -

Tribute Heritage and tradition is incredibly important in the Southern gospel music field. The quartets of today often look to groups of old for inspiration, while putting their own spin on their style of music. One of the groups leading the way is fittingly named Tribute Quartet. This dynamic quartet, founded in 2006 by Gary Casto and Josh Singletary, honors those who have come before and is dedicated to sharing the Gospel through their music. Their mission statement is simple: “preserving the heritage and promoting the future of gospel music.”

Gary Casto of Tribute

Gary Casto

Tribute Quartet will be celebrating their 13th year in full time Southern gospel music this year. Over the years, this powerhouse group has been delighting fans with their energetic style, humor, courtesy of Josh Singletary, and the message of the Gospel via incredible songs. The current lineup is comprised of lead singer and founder Gary Casto, baritone and pianist Josh Singletary, bass singer Anthony Davis, and the newest member, tenor Gus Gaches.

Casto has been singing full time in gospel music for 36 years and his classic lead voice has captivated audiences all over the country. He also serves as the group’s emcee at their concerts.

Josh Singletary of Tribute

Josh Singletary

Josh Singletary has been singing in gospel music for 18 years. His unique, crooner- style voice adds a great dynamic to the group, as does his crazy sense of humor. Anthony Davis has been with the group since 2011, for eight years of experience in Southern gospel music. His smooth bass voice has cemented him as one of the most popular bass singers on the road today. Gus Gaches is no stranger to Southern gospel music, having traveled with both the LeFevre Quartet and Legacy Five. Gaches, who joined the group in January, has 19 years of experience and has become a fan favorite tenor.

Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis

These talented vocalists are inspired by many of Southern gospel music’s finest. Casto states, “To name them all would take a novel. We all have a vast variety of musical influences. But the group as a whole has influences from the Cathedrals, Wilburns, and Statesmen, to the Imperials, Oak Ridge Boys, and a plethora of others.”

Beyond the Song: Riley Harrison Clark sings, “Glory to Glory”

Written by Staff on June 7, 2019 – 6:15 am -

Riley Harrison Clark. Beyond the Song. Glory to Glory

Riley Harrison Clark. Beyond the Song. Glory to Glory

Jantina de Haan Baksteen reached out to Riley Harrison Clark to go Beyond the Song into his new release, “Glory to Glory,” from his “Welcome to Me” album. We all know Riley from Tribute Quartet where he sang the lead. Members include Gary Casto, Josh Singletary, and Anthony Davis. Filling in the tenor part is Gus Gaches.

Riley Harrison Clark. Beyond the Song. Glory to GloryYou started your solo career in 2018 and introduced “Glory to Glory” to radio from your first solo album. Who wrote this song and why is it on this project?

Joel Lindsey, Jeff Bumgardner, and I wrote, “Glory To Glory.” I have always been inspired by Larnell Harris and his music, so when it came time to record an album of my own, I know I wanted to write a song that would stylistically be something like what he would record.

What made you pick this song as your first song to radio?

“Glory To Glory” is the opening for every one of my solo concerts. It is the opening of the album, so we simply felt it fitting to make it the first single off the project.

What does the message of the song mean to you?

Along with wanting to record something that felt inspired by the styles of Larnell, I also wanted to take a moment on the project to simply glorify God for all He is and all He has done. I believe we were able to capture both of these things.

Riley Harrison Clark. Beyond the Song. Glory to Glory

Riley Harrison Clark with Tribute Quartet

What is the message you want to share with your audience?

To answer this question as simple as possible I would say the most important thing I want to share is that there is hope. For whatever you may be going through and whatever may come your way there is always hope. You are not alone and never will be.

Can you tell what lies ahead for your solo ministry in the near future?

As an artist I have goals. Goals for my music, my voice, my future. However, I am always careful to not put a goal on my ministry other than to be where God has for me at every moment. I never want to put a cap on, for lack of better terms, my ministry. I feel the moment I start trying to control the future of my ministry is the moment it will start to stray from the greater things God has ahead.

I know you traveled a lot to foreign countries with Tribute Quartet. Where did you go?

Yes. While with the guys (Tribute) we were fortunate to travel all across the world; Northern Ireland, Scotland, Canada, Mexico, and most recently Tanzania, Africa where we were able to be involved with an organization we all feel privileged to support, Kids4School.

Riley Harrison Clark of Tribute

Riley Harrison Clark

Is it on your wish list to travel out of the country as a solo artist?

I would love to continue to travel the world. It is my passion to share my music and God’s message to not only my country but others as well.

Is there something more you’d like to share?

Lastly, I want everyone to know that it is my heart’s desire to reach the lost and broken as well as to encourage others that are simply in need of being uplifted. I believe now is as good a time as any to pour all we have into showing the love, grace, mercy, and hope of Jesus out for all to see. I am honored to do this by sharing the ministry of Riley Harrison Clark with all those that will listen, whether it is down the street or all around the world.

Thanks so much for your time. As the SGNScoops team, we wish you God’s blessing for your ministry and family!

Tribute Quartet: Artists on a Mission

Written by Staff on September 1, 2017 – 8:59 am -

Southern Gospel Music is known as quartet music for its traditional four-men-and-a-piano set-up. Over the last few years, Southern Gospel has evolved into a popular form of music across the United States and overseas. There are only a few groups who live up to this customary Southern Gospel description.

The word tribute, when used as a noun, is defined by as “a gift, testimonial, compliment, or the like, given as due or in acknowledgment of gratitude or esteem” (, June 20, 2017). That is the perfect description of this group. When you meet the Tribute Quartet, you will understand how four voices and a piano can truly excite and energize your day on the radio or in person. They are a tribute to Southern Gospel Music, and their testimony and music is a gift to share.

Preparing the Gift

In 2005, the Wilburns (led by the husband/wife tandem of Jackie and Elaine Wilburn) decided to retire. However, a couple of the Wilburn group members were looking to sing on. And sing they did. In a short time, Wilburn members Gary Casto and Josh Singletary were enjoying presenting gospel music. Yet, Casto and Singletary had a vision of a quartet that was focused on music and ministry.

The veteran singers began a new vision without a name in December of 2006. Now, the group had signed to record with BSA World Records. Time had come to name the new group, but no one name had caught their attention.

Tribute“Glen Bates of BSA World Records made the suggestion of Tribute,” Singletary recalls. “There were no other names. That’s the one that was suggested. We all thought about it and loved it, so we stuck with it.”

From the first Tribute Quartet outing, the enthusiasm and energy caught the attention of Gospel Music lovers, young and old alike. Over the following months, the word began to spread about this new, young group that was energizing churches and concert stages in the Gospel Music world.

By 2008, Tribute Quartet began to receive some industry awards and a variety award nominations as well. In short, the Tribute Quartet was making its mark in brief time.
