Creekside Kickoff Concert 2018
Creekside Diaries, volume one: Sunday, October 28, 2018
By Kristen Stanton
The air is buzzing with excitement here in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Cars and buses are pulling into the Smoky Mountain Convention Center ready for a big week here at the Creekside Gospel Music Convention.
People are greeting each other with hugs or shouts from across the parking lot and it’s clear that “We Are Family” is more than just a slogan – it’s a feeling.
Now in its seventh year, this event has taken on an identity different from anything else in the industry.
Packed full of singing and special events, this year kicked off with a bang with Quartet Night. The Pine Ridge Boys, The Chordsmen, and Common Bond Quartet sang to a standing room only audience that left the crowd excited for the Monday night concert. The capacity crowd filed in when the doors opened at 6:30 p.m. and stayed until the last note was sung.
The spark is in the air – and if you’re here, you can feel it. The pastor at church this morning reminded us that God’s presence changes everything. The three quartets that sang tonight certainly ushered in the presence of God.
Is revival starting? Maybe. I can’t wait to find out!

SGN Scoops’ Fabulous, Fun Fact Friday with the Williamsons!
Written by Staff on August 28, 2015 – 11:46 am -FUN FACT FRIDAY
IT’S FRIDAY! Another week has come and gone, and that means we are one week closer to Creekside! This week I was able to get a little in tune with The Williamsons. Check it out!
Q: What is your favorite bible verse and why?
Karl: Job 22:9. “It describes in one verse the reason why we do what we do, and why I leave my family every week to travel and sing.”
Donnie: “Of course, my favorite Bible verses have to do with the salvation experience and how we can be reconciled to a holy God. The one I am going to share today is one my mother taught me when I was just a teenager going through regular teenage issues. It is Philippians 4:8. It helped from my attitude when I was a teenager, and it is still helping me from them today.”
Darin: “Psalm 37:4 is my favorite scripture. I love it because I am a living example of what it says. God has given me the desires of my heart. I get to do what I love on the weekends and come back home to my wife and son. Life is good.”
Lisa: “My favorite scripture is James 1:17. I believe that God has given us so many ‘good and perfect gifts;’ we could never thank Him enough! I know in my life He has given me salvation, my beautiful family and has fulfilled my dream of being in ministry. So many other things I could name, but where do I even begin? God has been so very good to me!”
Q: At what time in your life did you know that you had been called to sing gospel music?
Karl: “April 13th of the year 2000. That was the day that God called me into the ministry. That was the only instance in my life that I can remember actually hearing the voice of God.”
Donnie: “I had some friends take me to a concert when I was 12 years old. It was there that my soul was set on fire to share Gospel music. Since my father was a pastor and we sang in a family group together, there’s hardly been a time in my life that I was not hearing the Gospel through music. However, I must say that even within the past seven years I have had a renewed commitment and desire to evangelize through music even more than ever.”
Darin: “In 2003 I attended a Gold City concert with my dad. Tim Riley, Jay Parrack, Danny Riley and Jonathan Wilburn did an incredible job of course. There was something extra special about that night though. I believe that’s where I fell in love with Gospel music I feel like God placed the desire to sing Gospel music in my heart and from that day on I knew what I was supposed to do. Its one of my favorite memories.”
Lisa: “ I don’t remember when God called me into ministry exactly. I have heard my parents tell about something that happened the day I was dedicated though. I was only a few days old when the service took place. As they prayed over Dad, Mom, and me, an elder in the church prophesied and said that God was going to use me to reach many people through my ministry. He couldn’t have known that God had in store for me! Not at only a few days old! However, God knew what He had planned for me and my life. Whether you believe in prophecy or not, you can’t argue with the fact that God has fulfilled that one!”
Q: What is your favorite hobby when you are NOT singing?
Karl: “Hunting deer and smoking meats. In that order. Fishing is just something to do until deer season comes around.”
Donnie: “My favorite pasttime when not singing is to spend time with my lovely wife and children. I don’t fish, I don’t golf, and I don’t hunt. If I have some spare time (which is not nearly often enough) I enjoy cuddling up with my family and watching a good movie or something else we can do together. I love popcorn!”
Darin: “When we aren’t singing, I love spending every moment I can with my wife Kallie and my son Patrick. I also enjoy coaching my son’s ball teams.”
Lisa: “When we are home I do laundry. LOL!!! Thankfully, that’s not all I do. I enjoy working in our studio and just being in a house that doesn’t drive down the highway!”

Cowboy Roy Goes To Creekside
Written by Staff on October 24, 2014 – 1:03 pm -September 4th, 2013 is a day I will not ever forget. My mom suffered a massive stroke and heart attack at the same time, the day before I was to leave to go on vacation to the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. All the way there on the bus from California I asked everyone to pray for her. When I finally heard the news what was wrong, I was halfway there. The news was that part of her brain was dead; there was heart damage, no speech and no movement. It was just devastating as you can imagine.
Well, prayers went up and around 1:00pm during the afternoon showcase, the hospital called and said, “We were standing by your mom’s bed side and we said her name and she opened her eyes and could make a fist!” After four days of NOTHING! That was a miracle!
They told me how grim the situation was and that I had to make decisions that were going to be very hard. They took her off the ventilator and put her on oxygen, because that was her wish, not to be revived. I was then told to either put her in hospice or a feeding tube and I did not feel comfortable about the feeding tube because of all the other surgeries. No matter how small a procedure that would be, I couldn’t do that to her.
So I went to one of my friends at NQC who was a nurse and she prayed with me and talked to me and told me that the hospice was the better choice. Then I ran into two other ladies and they were nurses and they also said hospice was better. So I began to look for someone to gather around me and pray for me as I made the phone call for hospice and they did.
I felt a peace about it, but deep inside I knew my mom was going to die. It took me two days to get to California on the bus, and another two days to recuperate from the trip, but I finally went to see Mom in the nursing home. She looked horrible! I took her hand and looked into her eyes and talked to her but there was no squeezing of the hand, no indication she knew who I was. I left the room in tears and cried out, “Oh Lord if she’s not going to be the same, please just take her.” Four days later it’s exactly what happened. There was no funeral, no memorial service, no nothing. They treated her as a homeless person and I had to make the choice to have her cremated.
I had to give away everything, sell everything and move. I even had to shut down my Internet station as well. It was a very hard time for me. In November, I moved back to Missouri and went back to the radio station I was at before. I was there till March of this year. I got my Internet station back again, but had technical problems and physical challenges. With no one checking on me by phone or in person, it was hurting me emotionally and all the way around. So the Lord opened the door for me to leave Missouri at the end of May to go to live in Alton, Illinois. Thanks to my dear friends Earl and Theresa Young, and Cindy Hughlett, I live in the best apartment I’ve had in years. The rent is even less than I was paying in Missouri!
This year, I was nominated for the Eyes of Mercy Servant Award in June and the Radio DJ of the Year in the Gospel Post Fan Awards in July. My friends from Florida, The Reflections, nominated me for that. I also got my Internet station up and running again. I have done over 300 interviews with many Southern Gospel and Christian Country singers. They have all become like family to me and I love each and every one.
Then I heard about Creekside Gospel Music Convention and I wanted to go! Christy Hinson told me about www.gofundme.com so I set up a page there and donations came there and by mail. I was overwhelmed by all the support and it is really exciting to me to know that I will be able to be there for the four days, to get to do more interviews and get more music for my internet station. I’m so excited!
My heartfelt thanks,
“Cowboy Roy”
