We are traveling the Road to the 2015 Diamond Awards during this nomination period, by highlighting the definition of each award category. The Anthony Burger Instrumentalist of the Year Award is given to a full-time artist in Southern, Country or Bluegrass Christian music who plays any music instrument with expertise.

This Award is named after Anthony Burger, an extraordinary piano player who played for many years with the Kingsmen Quartet and with the Gaither Homecoming tour. He passed away in 2006 while onstage at a Gaither Gospel Cruise. Burger won the Singing News Award for Favorite Instrumentalist for several years in a row until the Award itself was named after him. The Diamond Award honors this gentleman for his unique abilities by naming our award after him.

On November 4th, 2014, the Diamond Awards were held at the 2014 Creekside Gospel Music Convention in Pigeon Forge. The winner of the 2014 Anthony Burger Instrumentalist of the Year was Gordon Mote, a popular singer/musician who was blind from birth. Mote has play for such artists as Trisha Yearwood, Porter Wagoner, Gaither Vocal Band as well as the long-running Gaither Homecoming Tour. Mote is also a talented vocalist. He has recorded three instrumental projects and six vocal projects. His latest radio release is entitled,”Wounded Hands.”
