Mosie Lister: “Goodbye, World, Goodbye”

Mosie ListerThe Christian music world has lost another great man. Mosie Lister passed away this morning. As written on his facebook: “The Father has called His songwriter to Heaven.

Mosie Lister was born in Cochran, Georgia on September 8, 1921. He and his wife Wylene (d.2001) married in 1946. They had twin daughters, Brenda and Barbara. After Wylene’s death, Mosie married Martha, mother of Vicki Booth (wife of Michael Booth). Lister also leaves behind several grandchildren.

Lister was a Gospel singer, songwriter, arranger, as well as an ordained Baptist Pastor. He was a member of the Sunny South Quartet, the Melody Masters Quartet and the Statesmen Quartet. He also formed the Mosie Lister Publishing Company. Lister was inducted into the Gospel Music and the Southern Gospel Music Association Halls Of Fame.

Lister wrote hundreds of songs, sung by many artists. Some of his many compositions include: “Feeling Mighty Fine,” “Still Feeling Fine,” “Goodbye World Goodbye,” “His Hand in Mine,” “Happy Rhythm,” Shoutin’ Ground,” and “Where No One Stands Alone.” Listers songs have been recorded by artists such as Elvis Presley, The Hoppers, Loretta Lynn, The Booth Brothers, The Dove Brothers, Merle Haggard, George Beverly Shea and Bill Gaither.

Mosie Lister was a great talent and a great part of Gospel music. His songs helped bring the Word of God to many hearts, in the way only a true poet can.
