A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. — Proverbs 22:1

In a business world where large profit seems to be whats important, a commitment to having a good name is most commendable.

The temptation to seek gold or silver (profit) as our top priority is the same today as it was in Solomon’s day. Greater profits may come by way of dishonest weights, selling a sick animal, falsifying records, and more. But when you get caught, your business will also be ruined.

Too often our testimony is hurt by the way we do business. Too often we put a Christian symbol on our business card and yet deal with others dishonestly. Our good intentions and promises must be followed up with actions of integrity—in all we do. Christ’s name is at stake, not merely our reputation.

Jesus calls us to honesty. Honoring him, we can sing, “Lord, I lift your name on high,” and mean it. Are you honoring God in all you do?

Lord Jesus, empower us with your Holy Spirit so that we may live lives of integrity in all our relationships. We ask this in your name. Amen.

Loving God and Loving Each Other….

Vonda Armstrong

Happy Weekend Everyone! Yesterday I played a song on my show , “Who I Am Today.” The song was written by Victoria Shirey Bowlin and a well written song I might add.

Victoria Bowlin Signs Exclusive Recording Agreement With 65/40 Records

Victoria Bowlin

I interviewed Melissa Evans, (who recently singled the song),  on the show and we talked about one of the lines in the  song, “ I want to thank you for the doors you closed along the way.”
I’ve been thinking about that since yesterday and singing the tune In my head since we hung up the phone from the interview,

We often thank God for opening doors, but what about the ones He closes?

We should thank him for not allowing us to step into places not meant for us.

Thank you for the times you said No.

Remember the big Yes is the reason He says NO. He has a plan for you!

Don’t forget the roadblocks.

Thank you Lord for steering me in the right direction at times when I was headed the wrong way.

Thank you Lord for closing doors I need to walk away from or stop banging  on and thank you Lord for songwriters Like Victoria that write the songs that remind us of things like this..

Creekside Gospel Music Convention has come to an end. I’m leaving the mountains of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and as I look at the beautiful fall foliage all around me, I am reminded of God’s handiwork.

I love this devotion by Dayspring. I want to share it with you today.

Just as the trees don’t stubbornly hold on to their dead leaves, so we shouldn’t hold on to any unnecessary weight in our lives. When we long to enter a new season, the old can easily inhibit the new if we allow it. God’s Word reminds us to:

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:31,32 (NIV)

To get rid of negativity in our lives, we must first identify it. How can we do this?

» By reading God’s Word.

» By allowing His Spirit to show us the necessary heart changes we need.

» By being willing to shun practices such as bitterness and anger.

» By asking God to help us let go of the guilt from the past.

Oh how the Lord longs to empower and strengthen us for the new season ahead! If we’re not sure of the issues detaining a kind and compassionate spirit, He will show us when we ask. And if guilt from the past is preventing this beautiful new season, we have His promises like this one to remember:

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.  See, I am doing a new thing!  Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:18,19 (NIV)

What are you holding on to that is preventing a freshness to the season ahead? Could it be that the decayed leaves are piling up and your heart needs to discard them for good? If so, why not reach out to the Lord in prayer? He longs to hear from you. Ask Him to shine light on any thoughts, circumstances, habits or other “decayed leaves” you might be clinging to. As you watch the leaves fall this season, our prayer is that you are reminded to let go of anything that would hinder a fresh relationship with God.
( Devotion)

Happy Saturday!

Weekend Word With Vonda Armstrong- What Will Heaven Be Like?

Written by scoopsnews on October 12, 2019 – 6:48 am -

What will Heaven be like?

I like what has to say about heaven.

“There will be no misunderstandings or tiffs or tension among us. Our relationships will be so much healthier in heaven than here. Down here we have problems even with our closest friends. You know what that’s like. Someone says something to you, and you aren’t sure how to interpret it. You react to it— perhaps overact. You say to yourself, “I wonder what he meant by that? I wonder why she said that?”

In heaven there will be none of that. Our relationships will be open, honest, interesting, loving, and uncomplicated by sin or our sinful natures. We will dwell with God, the angels, and one another in perfect compatibility and refreshing intimacy.”

The truth is that we all will have an appointment with death. And we must be ready.

The lyrics in this song by Eagle’s Wings says it best.

“Pain is a stranger, there’ll be no danger, it’s glory forevermore.”

Happy Saturday!

Weekend Word With Vonda Armstrong- “I’m Reminded”

Written by scoopsnews on October 5, 2019 – 6:58 am -

Creekside Hey Y'all media bash

Vonda Armstrong of Hey Y’all Media

Mark 6:31 (KJV)

And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

Happy Saturday Folks! Another week has flown by. I find myself again on Saturday morning writing my Weekend Word . I guess an organized person would have it sitting in drafts and waiting to be posted but those of you that know me well, KNOW that isn’t me! LOL

Can I just be transparent for a moment? Life has been somewhat overwhelming lately.  My Mom and my in-laws are all in their eighties and all having health issues at the same time. I find myself running in every direction trying to be what I need to be for everyone. Lately, my busyness from my jobs (plural)  and other daily responsibilities have caused me to neglect what is most important and vital.

How could that be? What I do is ministry right?

Well, Even the duties God has called us to do can be put higher up on the to do list than those things that is of lasting significance. Our Lord knew this. Throughout the Bible, God often used the most simple things to teach us important spiritual things.

In Mark 6:31, He was talking to the Disciples. The stressful and strenuous work of the Kingdom had caused them to neglect their own needs/body etc.  The Lord knew this and and with compassion and gentleness he said, Come away to a quiet place for a time of rest.

We need to hear the same voice and provide ourselves with rest and refreshment.  Ministry at times is stressful and strenuous. Life’s pressures can take a toll on our relationship with the Lord.

Do you have a favorite place to rest? I have a quiet place and a sign in my bedroom. I’m a visual person and when I see it, I am reminded that I need to rest.  Its a simple yet important reminder.

Hope you have a great weekend and may we all keep our eyes fixed on Jesus everyday, knowing that He will provide nourishment and rest for our souls…

And speaking of reminders, let me leave you with this song by The Dodsons from Tollesboro, Kentucky. Real People. Real Ministry.  Check them out HERE

Philippians 2:3-5 “(3) Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; (4) do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. (5) Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,”

CS Lewis said it like this: “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less”.
Let not obsess with our own issues and self-image. May we always strive harder to keep our focus on God.

Many people are hurting. I challenge you to reach out to them and be Jesus in their life today.

Happy Weekend Everyone from SGN Scoops!

Vonda Easley and her mom, Margaret Turner

Vonda Easley and her mom, Margaret Turner

Hi friends,

I’ve been in Alabama this week visiting my Mom. When I first arrived to see her, I noticed she was crying. One of her friends, Mr. Sanders had passed and she was very sad.

My mom is in the nursing home in Heflin, Alabama. Mr. Sanders “took a liking” to Momma and always was so kind to her.

He never missed an opportunity to smile or tell her she was pretty when he saw her.

I think we could all learn a lesson from Mr. Sanders. A lot of people are going through things. In fact, I think if we knew the struggles others face, everyone would be a little more kind to one another.

I love the message in this song. It simply says everybody’s going through something……

And I sure love the sweet lady singing it!

Happy Saturday!

Let’s Be Kind!

Weekend Word With Vonda Armstrong- Divine Appointments

Written by scoopsnews on July 6, 2019 – 8:04 am -

John 4:28-29

28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

As a child I went to the altar during revival service one night. I repeated after the man that was there to greet me and later was baptized. I had been in church most of my life. But later on, as an adult, something happened!

It was a typical Sunday morning. The preacher began to preach a message I had heard before. It was the one I heard that same night as a young girl in revival. When the invitation came and I began to pray these words, “Lord if there is one that don’t know you, I pray that today would be there special day.” That’s when the Lord spoke to my heart.

He said , “It’s You.” That day was a divine appointment made just for me. Something happened that day. It was something beautiful. I felt Love. The real kind. The kind that that covered every wound from a young girl to a young woman’s heart. I couldn’t wait to tell my friends and family.

In the verse above, we find another woman who was wounded. Jesus meets her at noon-time at the well and asks her for a drink of water. He knew about her wounds and He showed her real love. That was her divine appointment.

I love what she did. She didn’t wait to share her story! And…. Lives were changed.

When we share our story, parts of it will resonate with hearts that long for the same thing.

Are you sharing your story? Perhaps this day God may give you an opportunity.

Have a blessed weekend!

Until next week…… Bye Ya’ll!

Weekend Word – Right From The Heart

Written by scoopsnews on June 29, 2019 – 6:11 am -

“I say to you, that many shall come from east and west, and recline at the table with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 8:11

Years ago, more than one generation often lived together in the same house, or at least close to each other. Family reunions, as we know them today, were pretty much an every day event for those folks. But, as time moved on and families became fractured and scattered, the family reunion became a popular way for families to come together once a year and catch up with one another, eat good food, and watch all the kids play.  Today, for those of us fortunate enough to still have close family ties, family reunions can be a lot of fun. (Or they can be total misery!) Whether they’re good or bad depends on you, members of your family, or both.

But today, I want to talk about the ultimate family reunion – one that we will all want to attend! I’m speaking of what happens when Christians die. Not only do we get to be with Christ, we also get to be with those who have died in Christ before us and are enjoying the eternal family reunion in heaven – a reunion where everyone gets along. Won’t that be something? Well, it won’t be if you miss it!

The good news is that we can be sure we make the ultimate family reunion by believing and knowing Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. And when we step over from this life to the next, He’ll welcome us home with the greatest family reunion we can imagine.

I’m looking forward to that ultimate family reunion. I hope to see you there one day.
